Anyone know if they sent out 3Nov dates yet? Wed is technically 2 weeks but come on! This is killing me.

I'd ask over on the RST American Facebook group. That page seems to have the best info.

I just brought in an interviewee from Tucson. Great guy! He stepped up and let us know why he was going to DFW, and genuinely seemed excited!!

Would anyone who has interviewed recently (in person) mind sharing about their interview experience? Thank you. PM if preferred.

CADR 10-22-2021 12:03 PM

Can anyone in the “know” shed some light on the rumor mill that AA will not be inviting anyone from the Wholly-owns (Envoy, PSA, Piedmont) for interviews anymore?

Lots of talk, (grain of salt I know) at the WOs that AA wants to keep them staffed so the only path to AA is through flow now and getting hired outside of that will be dang near impossible if you are a WO pilot.

crusher 10-22-2021 12:37 PM

Do WO pilots hired outside the flow lose the new bonus payout for not flowing? Is so AA would have an instinctive to hire you as close to the flow as they think you would accept loading the payout. I don’t think AA a would even think to examine this so closely, but it is interesting.

They get paid the bonus if they flow, or get hired outside the flow.

crusher 10-22-2021 01:18 PM

Thanks for the insight. I’d still be surprised if AA completely cuts off WO from street hiring. I have no inside info though obviously.

The rumor is false, source first hand knowledge of people who have interviewed and have interview invites from a WO after covid.

ZeroTT 10-22-2021 01:38 PM

Given the rate at which UA and DL are vacuuming captains out of the WO’s it would be incredibly foolish for AA to quit interviewing their own. A “flow or go” policy would not prevent the impending collapse of their regionals but it would guarantee everyone but them benefits from it.

crusher 10-22-2021 02:19 PM

What we are all trying to understand is what is AA’s play now with the available pilot resources. It would seem that AA’s WOs are not going to be a workable business model if things continue as expected in the industry. This is great news, but how does it play out? If AA really wants to keep the WO pilots coming to mainline, then it would seem that mainline AA needs to be a more attractive position then the competition.

going to be very interested to see. This is like some crazy combination of musical chairs and Jenga. Whichever regional folds first will put a bunch of pilots on the market and take pressure off whoever loses the least capacity.

50 seaters will get the shortest end of the stick

my bet for the WO is that Piedmont folds and the 76 seat flying comes in house to AA.

ExpressJet/Trans States collapses say no deal.

Regional pilots with experience will do just about anything to not start over at another regional.

Instead of being reactionary, APA should be knocking on doors in Dallas with proposals to fix this. Everyone knows taking whats offered from skyview drive is NOT whats best for AA pilots. You currently have WO pilots getting 70k checks in AA new hire classes like its a regional. Totally bonkers.

ZeroTT 10-23-2021 06:51 AM

Express Jet and Trans States died in a different environment where their capacity wasn’t needed.

Things will be very different when needed airframes are parked because of captain/lca shortages.

Whichever airline or two falter first it will quickly become a positive feedback loop with increased attrition and inability to hire.

And yes experienced regional pilots will do anything to avoid a lateral move… but that’s the problem. A shortage of experienced regional pilots. The 300-900 hr guys will probably get a lot of money thrown at them by whoever is left standing.

Well first off let’s hope no one shuts down. If it were unfortunately come to that. Those pilots will be filling jobs whether at LCCs/cargo/majors/regionals spots that may have gone to other regional pilots. It definitely would not be close to enough unless it was Skywest (which it wouldn’t be) to fill the jobs.

Looking at the number of pilots being hired by the majors, it is almost a certainty a number of the regionals will shut down. Lack of pilots. Just looking at reality. Rose colored glasses will not help.

8000+ pilots being hired by the majors in the next 14 months. No way all of the regionals can survive that. Not even close.

OpieTaylor 10-24-2021 04:15 PM

APA needs to allow AA to give WO flows longevity at AA. APA could get flow back rights with longevity at the WO. Flowing to year 3 or 4 pay at AA would hold more in their current seat.

ZeroTT 10-24-2021 04:25 PM

Longevity won’t get it. Pretty much every WO lca has offers for seniority at UA and DL

Agreed. Don't forget FDX.

There are a LOT of LCAs headed for other carriers. And there are a LOT of guys applying for LCA seats because they (probably correctly) assume that as soon as they add that to their Apps elsewhere that that will radically increase their chances of getting the call they want.

I can also say at PSA there are more than a few who'd like to be at AA, but are choosing other airlines because the increased hiring is seriously devaluing the flow for them. When we only flow 10 / month regardless of how many AA hires, and AA more than doubles how many they're hiring every month, that's a lot of seniority to give up.

So yeah, I think the only thing that would cut it is Seniority, and I think APA would be very reticent to allow that, or at the very least needs to leverage that for all it's worth. That said, that also requires the brain trust in DFW to see it as a problem in the first place. Given that they got rid of all the Group 1 aircraft while other airlines have added some, who knows.....

TransWorld 10-24-2021 05:57 PM

Is Group I pay scale still in the contract?

AllYourBaseAreB 10-24-2021 06:06 PM

Yes it is still

So, the framework is still there. My bet is they could create a Group 0.5 for 175/700/900 and keep the Group 1 for 220s.

Anybody know how far out the delivery slots are taken on the 220?

I bet Embraer would give them a sweetheart deal on some E2s though, both 195 and 175.

To add: I'd bet this is the model the Legacy airlines move to in the not too distant future. LCCs are already going to 141 University programs and setting up pipeline programs.

Just make them group 1. Put the 220’s in group 2.

Supposedly Sun Country and Frontier are interviewing RTP directly without going to a regional first.

As said above, I hope that's never the case. Do a touch and go at a regional to break 1500. Mil won't have to wait that long after 1500 hours, know of several hired at legacies with less than 2000TT. Know of one who got 800+ in the Navy and as soon as SHE got 1500TT at the regional, got the notification from Delta.

AA and UA were both at the convention. As I recall both presenters were asked that question and both said no. They're still looking for applicants to have the minimums that are listed on their websites.

That question came up during the AA brief. BLUF: go get some fixed wing 121 time.

Setspeed 10-25-2021 01:35 PM

Anyone familiar with the recruiting candidate database and what it entails? Is this beginning of the process for the short video interview?

Unfortunately wasn’t able to attend
RTAG. Can anyone who attended educate me on what they discuss in regards to mínimums when it comes to military, civilians and a combination of reservist/civilians times.

Fly as much as you can, they will call you when you hit their current minimums (not published). That was their recent answer to the question. They look at the "whole candidate", not just a number of hours flown. They want the best fit.

Before covid, Patty said that they would run different scenarios in the application software daily, changing parameters and they would pull different applications. Small changes in things like PIC time, advanced degrees versus bachelors only, different military criteria, etc... Each change would bring up a different list of applications that they would review. The "minimums" would change daily, sort of. They would make small changes to see what applicants would come up.

Setspeed 10-25-2021 04:35 PM

Another question comes to mind. Is the "schedule interview" tab on airline apps for an the person interview or a virtual HR?

PilotOU7 10-25-2021 04:54 PM

Exactly

Could not agree more. When hiring 45/week and PSA only will flow 10/month. It weakens it even more. It is all about seniority.
