I read today that JetBlue is tripling LGA....is AA giving up slots?

Announcement today said LGA is eagle only.
Note from JetBlue VP of Flight Ops said the following with respect to LGA expansion.

These are JetBlue flights, on JetBlue aircraft, operated by JetBlue Crewmembers, using American's significantly larger slot holdings.”

Take that for what it’s worth.

Even if we could, we're more in the mood to give up scope litigation in exchange for furlough protection while the company hires pilots.

Yeah also didn't see that. I did see that all of our new routes out of LGA are going to be eagle, with the exception of Houston which might be a 170, might be a 319. yay.

Looks like LGA-IAH is a mix of 319 and 175. BOS-STL is a 319. Obviously JFK-DEL is mainline then the rest of the adds are eagle.

Got the long awaited email from Pilot Recruitment. CJO’s are still valid. Class dates will begin as early as October but no specific dates are available yet. More to follow when class dates are available. Way stoked!

I was on the very last interview back in March 2020, no CJO offered since that was when all the mess around Covid really exploded here for US carriers.
I did get an email yesterday saying to keep my profile updated and i was to be contacted by them for more info to notify me the status of my interview (whatever that means) but I think positive...
They are reviewing the candidates i guess that they interviewed but no CJO were extended to.
I know they started PRIA paperwork soon after I interviewed since a previous employer called me to say that he was filling out the paperwork but everything went into freeze mode shortly after.

The Pilot Recruiting team here is a class act so I am not surprised they will do anything they can to make things right with the people they intended to bring aboard last year.

CJO’s are getting class dates.

Is this just in general based off the email that was recently sent out, or are they officially handing out dates?

Do you know what those dates are? Public comms from AA have been a little vague. “Hiring this Fall” could be anything from early Sept to late Nov. I would assume it’s on the earlier side since they want to get so many through, but it would be nice to know. Thanks.

Some 3/20 CJO’s are getting 10/21 classes.

Wonder if class sizes will be reduced for COVID issues?

So who thinks that “for planning purposes” email they sent last week will stick? Delta moved their classes up to June and United is ahead of the game with May classes already. I don’t see how AA keeps the October dates given the progress we are seeing. If Europe decides to open up for vaccinated travelers in June/July I think they’ll hit a snag putting wides on even select routes since more narrows would
be needed to replace the domestic wide routes. The regionals are already in crisis staffing, I see that trickling over to mainline if they don’t act accordingly. I know none of you actually know anything but give me some hope that the light at the end of the tunnel is closer than it looks.

I heard a rumor that someone in the 3/17/20 class was told to expect July. Not sure how true that is.

We are at the point that it doesn’t matter what demand is. The problem is training. I get they were freaked out and their financial situation forced their hand a bit, but we cut back pretty far. Many people who have been at AA two years don’t have a training date in sight. I know of someone who was sent home from training due to instructor availability. There are also 330 guys on leaves who have to be trained that I know of. We’ll see how it plays out but I don’t think there’s much they can do at this point. In the meantime, I’ll continue enjoying month eight of vacation

oh I think it will be bad starting in May, especially with everyone playing the vaccination card to get off of trips. anyone else notice after TTOT was open a few hours how trips started to drop into open time 2 at a time about 2-3 weeks apart?...yeah

This part was actually addressed in the latest earnings call. Long haul markets have a roughly 7-9 month long booking window. If Europe does suddenly open up, it doesn’t equate to sudden vacation bookings last minute. Those summer vacations have already been booked elsewhere (HI, FL, MEX etc). It seems that AA has pretty much decided that EU is a wash for summer 2021, excluding some markets like ATH and LHR.

boy that is some spin. 18 months of pent up demand? Europe opening up DEFINITELY will be a booking stampede

I agree, seems incredibly short sighted by the company.

I listened to that SOTA but I don’t see it as being a wash that easy when your competitors are going to do the flying (maybe). Even if we picked up some select destinations like FCO, CDG, FRA and add some more LHR could they even do that in the position they put themselves in? I saw AA training as being in the same boat as UA and DL and both of them are hiring earlier than expected.

I didn’t get that snippet about EU from the SOTA vídeo. Vasu said it on the Q1 earnings conference call.

I would have swore it came up in the Q&A in some form but all these things blend together now. Anyway, I hope AA can still capitalize on the good stuff they’ve done moving forward.

This chat was the closest I could find regarding AA hiring to ask this question (apologize if missed a better one). So on the AA pilot application system, do you have to be using a certain web browser for the Assessment step to work? I went through and completed everything on their application, even changed from draft to publish thinking that might be the missing piece but nothing seems to work. I click on the Assessment tab on the app and just get a blank page?! I’ve tried it in Chrome, IE and my iPad but still just a blank page for the Assessment’s tab. I’d appreciate any guidance, in case I overlooked some instructions about that Assessment tab. Thanks!

New application system, the assessment is not loaded yet. It’s not available to anyone, keep monitoring it.

Any updates to how training is going? Do all recalls have training dates yet?

I saw a post where one CJO said they were given an October class date, but wondering if anyone had heard of a class starting earlier than that.

None of the emails I've seen had an actual date attached. It was "for your planning purposes" they anticipate running classes in October.

Most of the recalls now have training dates in June. It seems like everyone will be qualified and out flying again by early July. The exception is the 3/17/20 new hire class.

Anybody want to hedge if they’ll take people before October?
