Just my observations and I'm sure I will be corrected shortly. But from this line pilot's point of view it appears that the only international region which AAL is committed to serving long term and has a true competitive advantage is Latin America. Just a few years ago we were the self proclaimed premier LAX carrier to the Pacific. Now it's a ghost town. We struggle to compete with DAL and UALs international product and tend to launch service only to cancel it later. My worry is that in the next 10 years we will park the 772s and won't have the financial wherewithal to purchase 777Xs. We might be left with about 100 787s plus our 321XLRs to carry the load. That would put the widebody fleet at around 10-15% of the total fleet. Meaning a very long wait to the left seat of a heavy. I believe UAL has nearly 40% Group 3 and higher. Of course that could all change if the SEA gateway via Alaska codeshare and JFK tie up with Jetblue actually works. Fingers crossed.

It's currently about 30 years to hold FO trips to Asia for legacy AA pilots. Probably mid 20's for ex West pilots.

Is there a “key” to getting an interview? I am Veteran (non-flying), have my degree, almost to 3000 TT and 1300ish 121, so my times aren’t overwhelming, but I do have an internal recommendation.

other than just getting more time, and obviously getting TPIC, is there anything else that helps get an interview here?

you don’t have any pic time? Not sure how many bonus points you get for being a vet, military pilot matters a great deal, being a shoe clerk, meh.

I am relatively certain that internal recs only help after you get an interview. Getting the interview is essentially controlled by a computer.

Good luck.

Go to job fairs, a good meeting with a recruiter could make all the difference.

Did that change? When I was at the job fair portion of 2017 SkyBall, the hiring team specifically stated that internal recommendations through PilotCredentials added points to an applicants computer score; specifically, 3 LORs was the magic number to max out the points in that area.
