I hope so, but training is so slow, I’m not confident. I’m a May return that isn’t doing the first bit of training until mid June… and the training assigned still lacks the “international” ground, so that’ll probably spill into July somehow.

Hopefully they hurry up and get us all through, I’m ready to print premium pay and welcome newhires

LabDad06 05-13-2021 05:56 AM

I think they might, which is why they haven't scheduled any new hires other than the October class. Why go through the hassle of getting everyone else scheduled if you're just going to move them all up?

Recalled in April, I've flown every rap I've had so far. I'm sure the premium is coming soon

Just flew with a 737 FO that credited over 180 hours in March. Seems to me that it's all about how quickly our training department can get guys through. The flying is clearly here.

Let's get you guys back on the line and new guys onboard!

mukalel 05-15-2021 11:43 PM

Whats the likelyhood of getting a call with no pic time but tons of heavy international and having experience flying all boeing types??

Just waiting for the call for a class date, will be happy to finally be a part of AA.

Don't want to sound too presumptuous but, what's the time frame to left hand seat at American? Of course, willing to wait my turn, but just curious as my partner and I are looking at moving on from the middle east to the US preferrably LAX based (in-laws on the West Coast and it's one flight across the Pacific to home for me).

Thanks in advance,

Dookie.

3-5 years. Depends on base.

thrust 05-20-2021 04:39 AM

Pre-COVID was 2.5-3 years to NYC 737 CA. Post-COVID, too early to tell.

If you wait a few weeks, the Vacancy Announcement thread should have updated guidance.

Latest word, per email, is "we currently expect to resume new hire classes in September and conduct new classes into 2022."

this would make sense, if they are planning on 300 this year and 600 next year … glad to hear it.

My crystal ball is resuming in September with classes every two weeks, at 50 per class, and December no new class (at least the last half of December). My only basis is historically what has been done. No inside schoolhouse knowledge.

Does anyone know if AA will be present at OBAP/NGPA/job fairs this year?

Wish I could tell you. Even with 30 years at AA, I don't have a clue and I am almost 100% sure any AA pilot doesn't know as well. That goes for Chief Pilots as well.

Even when we were hiring, most were asking "WTF is going on?" That goes for a well respected CA whose son couldn't get an interview despite being a perfect candidate along with many recs.

As mentioned, it's much quicker that in the past. I've got almost 2 decades in the right seat despite willing to take the bottom seat in the 2nd largest crew base. Hopefully those times are gone.

Not sure if you're familiar with the CA/FO game, at least at AA. The lines have become more blurred in regards to quality of life and compensation. For instance, a savvy widebody FO with somewhat decent lineholding seniority can easily make more money than many A320/737 CA's along with a far better quality of life including far less work. PreCovid, most mid range narrowbody Captains had greater relative seniority than if they flew 787/777 FO in bases with Asia trips.

NGPA was back in February. OBAP will be virtual again, but info on attending companies probably won't be known until late June/early July.

I believe most with CJO’s have been given class dates. Additional CJO’s are going out now (those interviewed before covid that did not hear anything).

People in my CJO class (31 March 2020) were just asked to send in paperwork, not an actual date yet. The email did say new hires in September, but that has already moved up a month from October. Still waiting on an official date.

Perhaps a non-sequitur, but any advantage to having a car in DFW during training? What's the percentage of sims in DFW vs elsewhere, like CLT, and how does that differ between 320 and 737?

You can manage fine in DFW without a car, if I wasn't planning on going home on my days off I'd probably want my own vehicle, though.

All the 737 sims are at GSW. CLT is just 320's now, and the training center in CLT is scheduled to close, probably starting around the end of the year. With everything moving to GSW.

GSW is the company code for the DFW training center. It sits on what used to be the Greater Southwest airport, pre DFW.

They do use some other off site sims when they get real busy, CAE in DFW, and Boeing in MIA are the two that come to mind for the 737.

There are food options within walking distance from both training hotels the company uses in DFW. Not a ton, but you can certainly get by. The Atrium (primary hotel) has a restaurant and bar on site, and free breakfast (pre covid, at least). Some okay areas to go for a run but nothing spectacular. The gym is actually not bad. The candle wood suites is usually available upon request but now that I think of it I don’t think they put new hires over there, and being with all your class mates is definitely a big positive. Hope this helps

Yes to the car. We have 737 sims in MIA and also at another location in DFW but I don't think they are typically used for new hire training. Not 100% on the bus but both DFW and CLT are options with the CLT ones winding down soon.

Definitely bring the car to initial training. You can get by without it, but it will make your life a lot easier to have it. If I’m going to be in Dallas for more than a couple days, then I drive, but it’s only a 4 or 5 hour drive for me.

Once AA can figure out their new application UI. Rumor is they can't even see the apps already submitted on there right now because of it.

does this mean it’s not through pilotcredentials anymore?

According to another forum, they're making a completely new assessment. Until that's done, they can't take any new apps.

Still on pilotcredentials, but they completely updated the website and sounds like there’s lots of bugs to be fixed.

Like the saying goes... “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

What if the team that made the DOTC app is working on the website?

LAX is pretty senior. I would guess 7 years to CA in LA. Compared to probably 4 for LGA. That assumes a fast post Covid recovery. Otherwise it could be 10+. Just a guess of course. With the new Alaska partnership I don’t see much west coast growth. You might be better off targeting UAL/DAL if you want west coast.

New hire classes for the remainder of 2021 are already full with CJOs and flow throughs. Just FYI.

Would you happen to know when were those last CJOs interviewed (date) that made it for a 2021 class date?
Thanks.

Sounds like 2020 CJOs. Not sure if all of them will get into class in 2021 though.

Thanks for the insight, I was sent sent PRIA paperwork to be filled out last week, I suppose time will tell if I make it into a 2021 class or If I am going. to be bumped into 2022.
