Try to imagine if Airline Pilot unions were done the same as my late Dad's Master, Mates, and Pilots (MM&P) Union was. All work came thru the Union Hall, there was one national contract. A shipping company needs a 2nd Mate? They call the union hall and whoever is next up on the list can accept or pass. For Airline Pilots when XYZ airline needs a new F/O they call the Union and it's offered to qualified pilots on the wait list. I know this will never happen, pilots being pilots they will never agree on a National Seniority List.
