They will let you go home for a few days. Everyone in the training department will understand. Don’t delay the class. They will work with you if you have to leave for a family emergency. You aren’t going to be fired or anything for having a baby. Most likely you’ll have to wait a month or so to actually start aircraft training, so you would have time to join the next indoc class to catch up on anything you missed.
|
When I went through indoc I was able to select an aircraft training date ~35 days later. I enjoyed a long summer vacation. My pay anniversary is much later in the year but my seniority is based on that class date.
if you can get to class and select a training date down the road that may certainly buy you some time, but either way if you need the time off everyone will understand. Do what’s right for your family. |
Thank you so much for the answers. In any case I will work with HR and make sure they know in advance (training department as well). I appreciate you all and I’m looking forward to joining American.

Actually new York was awesome about our second. Even suggested I look into the new York paid leave. Which I took. All 12 weeks of it. Great way to bond with number 2 and realize I'll never have long off again until I retire.

Periodic NYPFL is even better than taking the straight 12 weeks. If you’re willing to be a on reserve and make yourself available for one day at a time, you could stretch it out 5-7 months, almost never work and still get half reserve pay.
|
But that leave requires a certain amount of work history lookback

FMLA is 12 months or 1250 hours in the proceeding 12 months. Company might be willing to work some kind of other leave, but fmla is a federal thing

They just think that you should actually come to work when you are supposed to and not screw over your fellow employees because you are too lazy not to commute to work like you should, or if you abuse sick time. |

Nope. NYs Cps are great for family emergencies and FMLA. They truly will bend over backwards to help you.

You know...they want you to be a decent human being and do what they actually pay you a lot of money to do (like sit reserve in base, not use SIN 10 days per month, every month, etc...) I agree with all of that. I don’t agree with them not following the JCBA. |
