That's not why they weren't hiring this summer.
They weren't hiring hiring this summer because they had reduced the pilot recruitment team down to ONE person. It took them almost three months to reconstitute the mechanism to rehire anyone in the first place. Once they made the decision to bring back pilots, they were already wAAy below glideslope

In the "old days", you would start with one major airline and then get the offer for where you really wanted to be a few months later. Then you would leave the first place for the second place after you already cost the airline tens of thousands of dollars. This was is much more payroll-friendly.

After having flown with a couple of the union sked guys....they are definitely impressed with themselves while delivering much less than sub-par performance.
If it was an asymptote, it almost gets to zero but not quite.
