New Hires No Showing

You’ve misread me. I don’t take it personally at all. I don’t know how long you’ve been here, just pointing out that it’s easy to make a move right now. Depending on how long you’ve been here and where you go, you could be far better off elsewhere. FedEx, UAL both offer pretty quick upgrades and can make a lot of sense for those with less than 3 years on property.

If I lived in a Hub…hell no, I’d stay. If I was unhappy here, I might leave, but I’d have to do some real soul searching about what I don’t like here, because it could be the same or worse elsewhere.
I did have the option to leave (well interview anyway) after a year and a half here, to an airline with a hub where I live. At the time, that particular hub was shrinking and didn’t look promising, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to continue to live there, I really did not want to repeat first year pay and lifestyle, etc. There were many more pilots younger and senior to me (which I now realize will only matter in the last years at my job). I chose to stay, and have been fine with that decision.
I was completely wrong about the status of the other airlines Hub, as I could hold CA there now, and we do in fact still live there (tried a move to an AA hub and really disliked it, so moved back). I’m OK with it, have no regrets, but with hindsight, would have probably jumped ship back then. I did what I thought was best at the time and am happy.

Several of us in my unit are in this boat where we have a couple of CJOs and deciding where to go. For me, I have an AA CJO and a United interview next month. My United buddies think AA is a dumpster fire right now, and AA is actually my first choice. I want to hang out in the DCA area and it seems like AA will have pretty good seniority. I like AA's other bases too (DFW, MIA, CLT). Not much else I like about United's domiciles except they have a domicile near me at IAD. I know AA has a crappy contract, but I wonder if it's going to get better. I'd imagine it should, but I don't know. Not sure what Isom will do now he has the reigns. My priority is domicile (lifestyle), then quick seniority, then pay. I'm not available until next September, so I have time to think about it. Any of you have experience hanging out at DCA? I want to be positive about AA since it is my first choice, but I also want to make the right one. My AA buddies seem to like it fine, haven't really heard anything negative from them, so I'm not really sure what to think yet. I'd appreciate any of your takes on this.

Of the legacies, AA is definitely lagging at the moment. How long until the next contract, who knows. It does seem like some progress has been made recently. However, in my opinion, none of the legacies' contracts/companies are so superior that they would justify commuting to a domicile when another has a domicile where you want to live. So for me, in base at the "worst" of them is still better than commuting to the best of them.

If it matters to you, and you’re definitely thinking about staying in the NoVA area, you can eventually fly wide body equipment out of IAD with UAL, whereas AA at DCA will always be narrow body equipment.
