How long is the seat lock after initial training to make a lateral move? IE: Bus to 737

One would only ever do this to be based in ORD or BOS. You can bid to switch equipment on the first vacancy that’s open when you’re on property. And then you’ll likely be withheld for 12 months. Somewhere in 16-18 month range.

There will likely be bus bases in ORD and BOS before that time anyways. With the new fancy LR 321's coming, BOS will certainly need a base, and they have already said ORD would be a bus base in 2023.

I doubt this will happen while there is any kind of training backlog. Probably not till after the next contract and they fix the check airman situation. They just don't have the training capacity to train a bunch of 737 pilots on the airbus because when they do open up the base. It not going to be all new pilots who will fill those slots, they still got to honor seniority in the vacancy bid.

Do not take the airbus counting on ORD or BOS getting it in the near future. That is very bad advice.

I'm suprised there are so many Airbus slots for newhires. I would have figured as unpopular as the 737 seems to be with alot of people that pilots would be trying to bid off of it to go to the bus or wide body fleets creating more need for 737 pilots at the new hire level.

There 6300 airbus pilots compared to 4300 737 pilots, they need to keep bringing new pilots in. Also there are plenty of reason pilots at American will stay on the 737 instead of going to the Airbus even if both are at your base of choice. The differences aren't that great which would cause someone to learn a new aircraft or lose some seniority.

Many things are said. Very few of them are true.

they have not said that. They have repeatedly said that dont have training capacity to handle all the lateral bidders. Any ord airbus base in near future is all a dream

XLRs will be in PHL, DFW, LAX. Change my mind.
