Upgrade Times coming down?

I thought the answers to this might need their own thread. Is there any idea as to why upgrade times are staying at around 4-5 years? I know many people had to wait far longer, however I know United has unfilled upgrade slots, DL is at around 4 years I think. With the retirements rolling in, why do you guys think the time to upgrade isn't plummetting. Obviously no one wants to be the plug, but someone always has to be. Any thoughts on why the upgrade times are not coming down like they did for the other 2?

Delta's latest vacancy award included NYC 737 captain award to a Nov 2021 hire.

In direct comparison to DL and UA, between pre-pandemic to now we parked a substantial number of airframes. Fewer pits, fewer crews (and CAs) needed. Obviously, that will achieve equilibrium and then reverse as retirements catch up, along with taking delivery of future tails, and the upgrade time will then come back down. But we’ve only had three post-displacement bids thus far, and those really have only moved bodies between bases to manage capacity and make room for the new hires. But new hires don’t dictate upgrades—total tails do that.

I think it was April 2018 last 73 ca award.. so... with no hiring in marc 2020 to sep 2021 the upgrade time should effectively be 2 years soon.. if.... if.. you want 73 new york and sit reserve up there..
