PSA hasn’t applied for a carry on bag program in the op specs, probably to save a buck or obviate the will the bag fit or not game. So all carryons have to be valed

Hmmm, not sure of the OP’s specific airline but can empathize as a computer.

If I were a mainline pilot, if the WO regional insisted on checking as full bag instead of valet, I would definitely miss my mainline flight while getting my bag from baggage claim. After I filed my report, it would probably be the last time that happened.

I had this happen to me a couple years ago commuting out of CLT on a regional flight. I had asked for a valet tag, like they always give me, and the the gate agent made some excuse saying I had to check it. I could only get a valet tag if I was DH. 8 years and I have never had this happen before, has not happened since. Training issue maybe?

I have a standard size LW.

It was out of ORF. I think ( I hardly ever think like this ) it was a gate agent flexing her mussels or lack there of. She even went on to tell me she was a flight attendant for 13 years. I usually commute on UPS anyways but we really don’t fly on the weekends. Again I understand about not bringing it into the cabin but it was a vallet checked bag. What’s the difference? Either way bring as much stuff as you want when you ride on us!

So, gate check and valet check are two different things. If the plane is large enough to hold normal carry on size luggage and they run out of room or it won’t fit then they gate check it and you pick it up in baggage claim. If you are on the 145 all bags get valet checked and you pick it up plane side with a yellow or red ticket. Make sure you put two or three of those things on in case one breaks off. If it breaks off they have to send it to baggage claim. 175 has over head space so no bags will be valet checked. I’m not sure about the CRJ.

This was how it was at Envoy I’m not sure if it would be the same at other Eagle carriers.

This is one reason why I do 'the walk' - no way am I gonna let some gate agent on a power trip put a jumpseater's bag under the airplane. Valet tag is bad enough (I understand it can't be avoided on some RJs), but baggage claim? GTFOH.

actually on the 175 they will valet check a bag for a deadhead or jumpseating crewmember (pilots or FAs, even with a seat in the back if there's no more overhead space available)
