67% of AA pilots vote to merge APA with ALPA

A dysfunction much like our Senate, Congress and President, but without Judicial system as a check and balance.
Thanks for that explanation.
But also, much like the US government, when you have idiots elect idiots, you get what you ask for.
Maybe that’s a little harsh and simplistic. I suppose many who would do well in the job won’t do it and those who do don’t show their true colors until after being elected. But that doesn’t seem to stop many for voting for them again.
Too soon after the US elections??

All you've got are guesses, because you don't work here and aren't a member of APA.

Let's stop with the manipulation of words. Nobody was asked if we want APA to merge with ALPA. We were asked "To what extent do you favor or oppose the APA Board of Directors exploring a possible merger with ALPA?". That is a huge difference.
The headline here is that 67% of 53% of AA pilots are mostly or strongly in favor of the BoD exploring a possible merger.
Nobody is committed to anything. We just want to ask questions and get more information at this point.

Who is going to vote for it unless they want it no matter how many word games APA plays with the questions? You can safely assume if somebody voted yes, they are for the merger.
53% of the pilot group responding to a single (maybe two) email asking them to fill out an online survey is a HUGE turnout. Ask all these research companies what it means when over half of the people respond to an unsolicited survey request. Now APA is trying to spin that to the fact they have overwhelming support??? lol, GTFO
Now APA is playing games again and pushing this out to next year. "we voted yes but not really, just kicking the can down the road" What a dysfunctional **** show.

Well, you’re reaching if you think I jam politics into every discussion. I have a much broader personality. But I’ve got enough friends at AA to have a bit more than just guesses and the reality is there are politics in EVERY union. That’s the nature of the beast.

"Manipulation of words" That's APA's motto right there.

He's right, though. The sentiment among our pilots is that APA is dysfunctional, has been for a long, LONG time, and is a lost cause. Most pilots I speak with agree it's time for us to move to ALPA. The holdup is our own union leadership stonewalling. How have you not noticed this, considering you work here?

Most pilots you fly with talk about wanting to join ALPA? That is not my experience at all. Yes people complain about the pace of negotiations. Yes people complain about APA (you think ALPA pilots don’t complain about ALPA?). But what I am yet to hear is someone come out and say we need ALPA! That’s the solutions! Sorry nope. I don’t want to double my dues for a tumi TA.

I’ve been an ALPA member, and I’ve been an APA member for more than ten years too. APA, as a union, with the bylaws and structure it has, is terminally flawed, and has been for as long as it has existed - since 1963. Time to bring us back to where we started - ALPA.

Actually, the 17th amendment makes the senate more like your BOD president, in that they are popularly elected. Before that each state legislature would elect their senators, making it a more valid comparison on how ALPA elects their MEC chairman.
As for the judicial system, ALPA has that in its governance. The ALPA constitution gives the power of interpreting it to the executive council, which is made up of pilots that are elected by each MEC. And for smaller pilot groups, they are grouped into four separate groups and each group collective elect their member. There are currently 11 members.
If an interpretation by the executive council is not favorable to the masses, the board of directors, made up of all representatives from all airline pilot groups. can amend it.
Curious, are your dues less than 1%? I thought your current dues are 1.5%? Current ALPA dues are 1.85%. Before COVID they were going to lower it to 1.8%. With a merger, APA can make the dues rate a condition to agreeing to it.
