American is too dependent on it’s regional feed for revenue. It is much more intertwined than either United or Delta are. The collapse of AA’s regional feed represents an existential threat to it’s business model because of this dependency.

Sure the money is retaining some Captains, but Captains are still leaving via the flow and to other carriers and what’s worse is that senior FOs are leaving even faster too. So what’s next? Staple? The regional feed can’t/won’t be absorbed by mainline pilots and airplanes.

The corner AA is now painted into is that the money isn’t really working the way they hoped. And to simply staple without the money would undoubtedly create an untenable staffing situation in the current hiring environment. So they’ll have to staple AND continue to pay. This whole situation has been handled poorly all-around. Stapling will have proven to be the most cost-effective solution once the dust settles in a few years. Until then they’ll continue to shove their head in the sand and light money on fire. Money that should be in the pockets of APA pilots.

Little problem. You can't just staple... McCaskill-Bond, Alleghany-Mohawk, yada, yada.

You'd need the staple-ees to agree to it. Otherwise they can sue and make all sorts of silly claims about what they're entitled to. Tranny agreed only because they held a gun to their head... Eagle pilots know they're in a good position to negotiate.

You might be able to bribe them to accept something resembling a staple with some fences.

The key phrase in MB is that integration must be done IAW “normal career expectations.” For a regional/regional merger, that means SLI. For a major/regional merger, the normal expectation for a regional pilot is to be hired at a major and placed at the bottom of the list. Fences are only required to keep the FOs from swooping in taking the CA positions for the Group 1 aircraft
