Default Close Call at JFK

Wonder if the new procedures had anything to do with it. Glad nobody was hurt!

…exactly what I was thinking! narrow body pilot here so I’m not sure if they had changes in their manuals!

based on the audio tapes that I heard they(AA 777) went the wrong way but it's hard to draw conclusions from partial information...either way it was a scary close call...lots of ASAPs being filled out I'm sure, and a phone conversation or 2 I'm sure.

The cAAptain was probably busy listening to make sure the FO was making a good PA… Ya know, no “please” in his “prepare for takeoff” or any funny business like that. Hard to trust these guys. Important stuff that got in the way of something small like crossing a runway. Hopefully the CVR caught him briefing the taxi right, that taxi brief is essentially your clearance anyway, important stuff

Sure they will need to dig into this to see what we can learn but the news is really sensationalizing this. They are reporting 1000 ft separation which produces a 3000 foot accelate-stop so mathematically they had the power up for a few seconds before a low speed abort. 🥱 system works.

Yes, they had changes. The difference is that unlike us NB guys being able to get several repetitions a day of the new procedures, they would be lucky to get several repetitions in a month. Could have been at least one of the crew's member first flight since the new procedures for all we know. If so that cockpit was definitely in the Yellow.

Delta guy here. Do AA 777s (or any of your fleet) have RAAS?

Flown one jet in the past that had it…nice SA tool.
