Getting premium as a commuter is very hard. It can be done, but you can probably count on one hand all the premium trips you will get in your first year as a commuter.
You can make more if you don't want any days at home by making yourself available for straight pay trips on your days off (no open time pickup on reserve), but that is HIGHLY frowned upon until we get a new contract. Everybody can see what you are doing including the CAs you fly with. Be prepared to get some slack if you do that.
Any way, you will have no life pinning for that PM which is just $90 an hour x1.5. Why would anybody do that? Wait till at least your second year pay raise if you want to grind out a year of high earnings.

Just doing the math. Pay cut on first year is there and information is power.

if you look at just the pilots junior to me- assuming they bid for transfer as quickly as possible- any where from 9-11months to get here- but they have known since January.

I was awarded MIA 320 in training. By the time I finished OE, I worked one 3 day trip while
on shortcall before I swapped to DFW. I got DFW in the first vacancy bud before I even started sims.
On the 320, DFW/FO/D is more junior than DFW/FO/I.

Other than some of the destinations, how different are DFW and MIA as 320/I bases?. I know DFW is the mega base, and tends to be a bit more senior than MIA?.
When it comes to earning potential, are both similar?. I would imagine it’d be easier to make more in MIA since relative seniority moves faster.

Lots of legs, lots of reassignments (20% of all narrowbody flying). So basically you'll jump ship, lose seniority, lose much of your ability to trade and drop trips, and be flying the same sort of trips.

DCA vs MIA vs PHL
Anybody have any recommendations on which is better short-ish term until can get back to DFW? Commute/crash pad/flying. FWIW, I do have friends in DC area, but would need my own transport to use as a crash pad. Not knowing how long it would be, would it be worth buying/ driving a car out to have?
How viable is LC reserve from DFW area for any of the other bases?
