No beards for J/S due to oxygen degradation

I have to disagree, personally. We are in a safety-oriented position (so are FA's to some extent, but pax lives are in our hands, not the FA's) and passengers will judge us on our appearance, even if it really has little correlation to the skill or safety of a pilot. Passengers don't get to see us working up front, so they will judge based on what they can see. First impressions are important, and pulling up to the gate looking clean and professional is key to putting passengers at ease.
Pilots are held to a high standard, and it's an important standard to uphold. I would love to have a beard, but I knew when I started in this profession that I was giving up the ability to have one during my working days.

I'm not saying those with beards can't be trusted, I'm just saying there is value in having all pilots be clean shaven. Also, the core mission may be the same but the stakes are much higher with air travel. Still appreciate the humor.

So you’d be fine with a bearded dude, under 300 lb but maybe unprofessional in whatever other aspect…..rather than a 300 lb fella that’s maybe a hell of a guy and 100% professional, with weight issues. Gotcha

In his defense and to not be biased, I feel like you could flip that around the other way as well. I agree about the weight issue not being a good look as well, but nothing that can be done as long as they can pass a medical.

Also, with the amount of new hires that look like they’re fresh out of high school I would think management would want beards. Most people look older with beards and I think that passengers would feel more comfortable with pilots they “feel” has experience over someone who is clean shaven.

Being extremely overweight is objectively a safety issue. Having a beard is not.

I honestly don't care either way. I hate shaving but it's not high on my list of wants. I'd like TTS fixed first.
All that said. This isn't the 1950's. No one cares.

I wouldn't feel comfortable flying with Bubba the Hut.
