Good evening all. Forgive me, but I am brand new to the 121 lifestyle and it is proving to be a steep learning curve in regard to bidding, scheduling, trading etc…I know everything I’ve read says that trip trades at AA are difficult/ impossible. So does that mean once you are online and eventually make a group of friends, you can’t trade trips to help each other out to get curtain days off if you need them for family milestones or special occasions? For example, in law enforcement, it’s not uncommon for a friend/ co-worker to be working a weekend that they really need off. I would work the weekend for them and take their weekday off. Then resume my normal schedule in the hopes that they will return the favor at some point? Is this not allowed at AA? Thanks for the help!

Also, with us being awarded schedules in the upper 80 hour to low 90 hour range every month, it is hard to trade and stay within the FAR limits for the month.

If you have friends in the same base and aircraft, you can do a pilot to pilot trade. The problem is that it is pretty rare for someone to have enough time off with someone else where they will match up where you can actually trade. We are not typically trading 1 or 2 days. Especially early on, you will have mostly all 4 and 5 day trips. It is pretty hard to trade a 4 or 5 day with someone else unless the schedule match up perfectly.

probably base depending. I’m MIA 320 FO. I just went on selected a 4 day trip and 5 tradable trips came up for live trades. Three 3 days, two 4 days. I trade multiple times a month usually. Also many times after I trade a trip once or twice it turns green. Happens. It’s definitely not perfect. It definitely should be better.
