Hope you guys stand strong and preserve as much as you can and come out as strong as possible.

Other airlines will benefit regardless how any one "feels." History repeats.

I know I'm incorrect most of the time, but those 300+ guys at AMR that took the early out last fall are the smartest pilots in the industry. The saw something.

They didn't 'know'. They evaluated their own personal risk vs. reward assessment and decided to retire.

If they 'knew' they would have shorted AA stock.

A possible gamechanger. Nobody is going to take on AMR pension liability

Pension agency's chief warns American not to kill pensions as part of bankruptcy | Airline...

Also interesting.

American Airlines, in bankruptcy, starting to attract outside money | Airlines and Aviatio...

Say hello to US American...

It is pretty interesting to see how little some of these analysts actually know. They mention USAIR and AMR as the most likely pair to combine with no further analysis.

Like the fact that USAIR in some regards is still functioning as two separate airlines. And most importantly, good luck combing the AMR labor groups with the other two groups - it would be very, very, very difficult to pull off. Labor lawyers on the other hand would love it.

Good luck to all the AMR Bubba's!

...says the RJ pilot

US Airways is making a ton of money right now because the pilot groups haven't come together. They would continue to make money with 3 pilot groups. I thought this was common knowledge?

Also the APA would steamroll USAPA in a representational vote in a merger even if USAir could get 100% westie support, which of course wouldn't happen. IOW, I doubt either side is worried about an integration. Merging with AA would actually help resolve the seniority list dispute and expedite the implimentation of a SSL.

To the first point, isn't that what smart people do?

To the second, smart investors stay away from airline stocks.

Then how come the big banks and big investors are always willing to pump money to keep these airlines operating? Easy answer, LEGAL money laundering scheme!!
