I wouldn't doubt that number worldwide. UAL went from 80.000 to around 50K by the end of bankruptcy. they cut 500 Directors in one awoop and nobody saw the difference. I don't know how much but I'm SURE American has some fat they can cut. Trouble is? Can they tell when they're cutting into the LEAN Muscle?? Pilots cabin Crew,Mechanics, Ramp, Customer Service, Dispatch etc.?? United went too far into the Lean and hacked off pieces of Bone and it showed in our service. American Management might not want to make that mistake, Though I doubt they're any brighter than UAL's Managment..

The only legacies that did not go chapter 11 last during Bush's term were based in Texas. They had access to liquidity. AA's business plan was to stick it out until some of the competition went away. That didn't happen so they now have to join the rest of the industry in Chapter 11.
