BA could get wrangled into this as well.
AMR Suitors Hope to Draw Support of British Airways - Deal Journal - WSJ
Some potential suitors for the parent of American Airlines are looking to woo the owner of British Airways to advocate, or possibly even participate in, a potential bid, people familiar with the matter said.
Private equity firm TPG Capital, among those eyeing a potential deal with American parent AMR Corp., has reached out to International Consolidated Airlines Group SA, the holding company of British Airways and Spain’s Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana, some of the people said.
At the same time, US Airways is busy building its case internally for how a US Airways/AMR combination would be attractive to BA, though US Airways hasn’t had direct talks with BA.

Hope yours is over much faster. It is painful to watch others (lawyers, consultants, bankers, execs) profit from the BK while the employees get hosed.

TPG had a prior tie in with America West, so there is the possibility of a combined UsAirways/TPG effort to be part of the AA process. TPG is very familiar with Doug Parker, as is Tom Horton.
American has control of the process. There is no way in hell that a merger will occur without Horton and the AMR board approving it. And for those that think that the East/West pilot shenanigans will matter, think again. All other work groups are merged. The APA would make short work of USAPA and Parker knows it. The pilot labor problem would go away quite soon after the merger. Any merger would not be held up by such a small percentage of the workforce. There are many reasons why this deal would not go down, but pilot issues are not one of them.

Perhaps, after his next DUI, he will enter re-hab...effectively neutering his chances of consolidation, and saving American from USAirways Parker-style management.
With that said, If I was the gambing type, I would place my bets on an AMR / USAirways merger.
It would look something like this:

Just a thought, don't even know it this could be done. IF USair merged with American, would that not benifit both of them immensely? They would own the east coast. NY, Philly, Charlotte, DCA, MIA, and lots of routes to Europe through Philly. The west coast, LAX, PHX, DFW, ORD. Sounds pretty good to me business wise. Strengthen their presence in Europe and still maintain a hold on the Caribbean. Plus improving their domestic route structure. As far as the East/West mess at Usair, and just thinking what would make business sense, just do away with the west side of usair? Now there's only two groups two merge. I know that's ****ty, but if they could do it, I wouldn't put it past them. No offense to the west guys...
