It is a very sad day when the employees of the once industry leading airline has to put their collective hopes and future on a merger with the likes of Parker and US Air. It is indeed a choice between being shot or hung. On paper the merger looks like the next logical step in the U.S. airline industry and may indeed free AA employees from the Crandall protégées but in the end the employees will again just be pawns for an airline management that cannot survive without putting the screws to the employees. No one actually believes that the corporate culture at USA is that much better than AMR but when you are at the very bottom anything looks better. Very sad.

At the rate we're going with our current regime, it will also describe us (SWA) within 5 years.

I have to agree with the OP: I continue to be astounded by American pilots' enthusiasm for Parker, as opposed to simply angling with the other cerditors for the management they want, in a stand-alone exit, to then go into a merger from a position of strength. And probably not with LCC.

I don't have all the facts, and am probably missing something obvious.

Either way, it appears that a LCC-AMR merger would be constructive for the industry, and my airline, so I guess what's good for you is good for all.

Just in case Parker turns out to be a sbig a sturd as everyone else you've already had, I wish you luck.

That would make the most sense.

AA pilots should listen to the 3rd quarter US conference call for insight into Parker's thinking. Answering a question about what the company might have to do to sweeten the F/A contract offer to get it passed he replied that having a contract rejected doesn't produce any "sweeteners". That is just gives both sides time off to think about things. Really? These guys are masters of the RLA.

Yes they are. It just goes to show you that voting down a contract because it is not acceptable to you might not help you long term. That being said, I have yet to vote for a contract.
