Will "Legacy" US Air keep hiring

We get to say legacy usair and legacy American now! Anyways for those of us still under review do we still have a chance or are we done

flybywire44 02-14-2013 11:46 AM

They are going to have to give all AMR furloughs a chance to come to LAMR and LLCC soon, but I would think LLCC will need will continue hiring in the short-term.

VenetianFryCook 02-14-2013 11:55 AM

Officially, the MOU requires that furloughs from the other entity be offered jobs before off-the-street new hires, but that can't realistically begin until the transaction closes. After all, it is possible - albeit unlikely - that DOJ or someone else disapproves and the whole thing falls apart.

So my guess is that US continues street hiring and AA continues recalls in the short term. By the time the deal closes in Q3 sometime, it's entirely possible the only furloughs left at AA will be voluntary (i.e. bypassers).

Lots of variables at play here, and everything happens fast. But with rest rules and retirements coming hard and fast on both sides, plenty of bodies will be needed pretty soon, so if you want to get aboard, get in line as soon as possible Best of luck!

They will hire people until till the time to furlough people

itsokimapilot 02-14-2013 01:46 PM

Any idea how American will work applications? Will they use airline apps or some other web service?

Somethings in this biz never change.

Flyby1206 02-14-2013 04:23 PM

So now which side gets to claim they are nAAtives and "hired not acquired"? ;)

aafurloughee 02-14-2013 06:54 PM

Does it matter?

Who actually says that? As if there would be pride or bragging rights associated with it?

I heard it several times when we were going to merge with UA. Of course one of our jack wagons asked a UA crew where he could get his 747 manual and that became legend over there. The 5% will show their rears on this one too.

More like 90% on the east side. Just wait until the American pilots get to deal with Diorio, Music, Ingram, McGhee and Dewitt.

aafurloughee 02-15-2013 01:33 PM

Why don't you just let us make that decision on our own. No need for mudslinging. Lets move on

I'm impressed with you Cacti. You have met 90% of the east pilots? You've been busy.

AA guys, let me tell you something about the west guys I know. I have never had a personal bad experience with one. The worst personal interactions have been snubs, no hand shakes etc. I have met several new friends and have enjoyed my time with them. A former roommate from commuter days is a west management pilot and I'd put him up there with anybody.

It was an inside joke, but fair enough, we will see.

.

You might be right, the actual number is close to 70%.

You're on a flaming rant this week. Why now?

Because you voted the mou in and merger was announced. I wasn't allowed to needle you until the mou passed.

Getting back to the original question posed on this thread, it seems the answer is yes. I received an invitation to reapply. I received a rejection notice while in training for my current job.

Sounds like it was that mass rejection they sent out. It was most likely a mistake... maybe you already know that :)

Let's act like professionals and move forward. The silly bickering on this public forum is useless and immature.

Yes—We have a lot of ground to cover in the next 24-29 months

I agree. It is unproductive.

Is Airways still conducting interviews?

Most of the east pilots I have met have been friendly and professional. Like you I've been snubbed. The FO on a flight I was jumpseating on wouldn't acknowledge me when I said hello in the cockpit. For some reason we were delayed and the captain actually came back into the cabin and talked to me for a while, real first class guy.

I presume so, unless they have a pool going.

The May bid results are out and there are still 74 unfilled positions.

This is just one forum of many, and I'm sure there's plenty of people who have applied who aren't on these forums.

It would be nice to hear them starting to make calls for guys, especially with this latest round of applications.

Just thinking..... I keep hearing PDT/PSA got TAs with job progression to mainline.... Wonder if they are evaluating that with West recalls to the EAST that might occur with the merger and TWA/AA possible offers?

Yes. Friend of mine has an interview this week in PHX.

Friend of mine has an interview on March 4th.

Wow... a significant number.

I remember the heady days around 1990 when AA started hiring upwards of 80/month, and it went on for a few years. It didn't take long to get a bit of "padding" below you.

Unfortunately, that didn't help much when the furloughs started. I was a 1991 hire. If I had been hired (IIRC) only 9 or 10 months later, I'd have been on the street. I've been very fortunate. So darned much luck/chance in this biz.

I'm at the school house right now, and there are all sorts of rumors about AA street hiring later this year. The school house right now looks like a retirement home... it'll be nice to get some youngsters in there. Hawt young new-hire FA's too! :D

Not an AA pilot, but yes -- there is an A320 sim at the academy.

ForeverFO 03-06-2013 03:53 AM

There's also a shiny new 777-300 sim that has some cosmic video that is supposed to integrate Google Earth.

Unfortunately, it is broken and will be for a month! Not sure why.

The A-320 sim sits there ready and waiting. I haven't seen it in action yet. Nice cockpit, very clean and logical layout.

Our newest A320 sim in CLT has the Google Earth stuff and electric motors instead of hydraulics for the jacks. I hear it's pretty cool, but I haven't flown it.
