US Airways, American apply to transfer all international routes to American after the merger | Airline Biz Blog

I'm pretty sure that only means since we will all be American Airlines they want to lay claim to all international routes currently flown by both carriers and wholly owned regionals.
Doubt it is any threat or will have any effect on integration.

Standard procedure. All intnl. route authority is carrier/certificate specific. Since AA will be the surviving cert, the US route/lndg rights need to be transferred over. Just one of the gazillion little steps towards merging two international airlines.

Streamlines the process to outsource flying to codeshare partners and/or RJs.
