AA Application

While we're all waiting for the app window to open.. does anyone know if AA will be using a separate application (like airlineapps) or will they be combining their application process and use us airways' application (hope not!)?

AA's hiring is separate from USair's.

No...they haven't announced hiring officially yet.

Airway 07-03-2013 08:17 AM

Will they call it an AApplication?

Sorry I had to.

Hueypilot 07-03-2013 10:00 AM

I'm kinda wondering when any official announcement will be made. There was that flurry of rumors stating interviews by August yet here we are in July and they still aren't even taking apps yet...

They are probably going to wait till after the por date.

Once that happens they can be sure of lots of things and move forward with their long term plans. I'm sure you'll see fleet mixing in bases and that will require more pilots.

The Equity Payout requires returning furloughees to notify the company by no later than August 1st of their intent to un-defer their recalls. Additionally, they must be scheduled for a class beginning no later than 90 days after August 1st - end of October. Therefore, there's been a flood of unanticipated (by the company) un-defers trying to get in under the wire. This has caused about about a 3 to 4 month backup in their original schedule.

Lil Pill 07-04-2013 09:16 AM

Actually, you have to be scheduled for a class before the Aug 1 deadline. AA only schedules 30 days in advance and is only holding two 25 person classes per month.

In other words you can forget about the Sep and Oct undeferred folks from getting any money which will probably loosen things up sooner than the 3 months anticipated by 450knot.

It's an unbelievably stupid policy decision by the APA which is screwing a whole bunch of folks out of some serious cash. The worst part is that there has been no explanation as to why. Just silence!

Hate to say this, but APA does not impress much so far. Their communication is atrocious!

These folks have been on "deferred" status for how long?

buddies8 07-05-2013 07:30 AM

problem is the deferrals returning and do there 12 month requirement for pay . trickle hiring at first but nothing major until august 2014 is my guess. AA says alot but does very little.

100% agree. I guess that's what makes this such a bitter pill. It's not the evil AA that's sticking it to the pilots with this equity payout, it's "our" union's mismanagement. My guess is it will end up in a bureaucratic/legal luffberry for a long time, and the end result will be much less money (cash and/or stock) than everyone is now thinking, and will cause even more angst (if that's possible) amongst the pilots, especially senior vs junior.

Regarding the thread topic, I think AA has its hands so full sorting out recalls and the impending merger that apps and eventual off-the-street hires are waaaay down on their to do list. Go ahead and apply when the time comes, but just be aware of the disorganized and disgruntled group you're joining, because it's likely to be that way for a long time.

And remember, big pilot shortage is just around the corner...

Just heard the Aug. 21 class has been cancelled. Probably street hires in Oct.

I'm assuming same reason for the July cxl. Too many undefers. Plus I've heard some haven't flown in 10 years need extra training.

You have to be on un-defer status before Aug 1 to play at all. Since AA filled the first Aug class and cancelled the second, it left many high and dry now because there are no more chances for a class being scheduled prior to Aug 1 as per AA scheduling policy.

Game over, many get bubkis... unless APA conceeds that leaving final eligibility criteria to be determined by management whims is not a very smart thing to do afterall

Not holding my breath.

Too many undefers would have made the second class more of a necessity. Don't know about how long 10yr ground pounders need in the sim, but that does not seem that probable either.

Fact is, there was no reason given. As usual. Love this profession. :o
