this is very bad for usairways.

This may be what ends up killing the airline.

Ruh roh.
Both airlines will be fine
If they dont end up merging, AA can compete alone and usair will become more of a LCC hybrid
BOOM!

But i think some things get moved around and it eventually happens

Yeah. That's what DCA needs...more flights to Orlando.

US Airways has been making money without AA. I see pilot pay being the biggest loss; no MOU rates and no increase in sight.

FWIW Spirit recently just sold off a bunch of its DCA slots.......I don't see any other slots being that much of an issue for the DOJ?

Long term usairways is just an lcc with a few european cities. It will always be a crappy 2nd teir airline.
We'll still be stuck with usapa
We'll still be stuck with loa 93
we'll still be stuck with the east vs. west nonsense.

as reflected by Wall Street's response, this is bad news, not good, especially in light of the positive reception by both companies that they were merging and the future, post-merger, was bright for all.

Holder needs to go. He has been a disaster. He wants to re-write drug laws and release criminals (how many 18 or over drug users and criminal's families will come forward and vote Democrat now...) , he is "taking a look at Gitmo", and now two companies, whose respective boards/shareholders support a merger, are prevented from or c*-blocked from merging.

time to move to Switzerland and get a ski bunny

Good luck to both companies, good folks at each. Hopefully these speedbump is cleared as I really believe a merged version would do very well

Naw Parker can do the smart thing and wait a year then file chapter 11 followed by ch7. Liquidate the airline where by eliminating that competition problem that the gov't thought they saw only to realize that without one more carrier there will be less comp anyway meaning HIGHER FARES, OOPS!

The reality is that this will stall things another 6mo to a year much to the delight of usapa as the theft will continue but as LOA93 rates. Parker will give up some slots or maybe even and airport to make ease the concern and things will be back on. Cant have a carrier like DAL out there picking up everything under the sun including 49% of Virgin Atlantic and not wonder about the governments intent!!!

DOJ specifically said DCA slots weren't the issue on the conference call.

Anyone stop and think that this could be a good thing? Airline customers want and should have choice. Consolidation (with airlines and in general) is not good for the economy. It shouldn't be incumbent on the gov't to approve mergers because **** poor management has put airlines in a position in which they feel that they have to merge to continue.

Monopolies "calling the shots" is bad. More airlines = more competition and that is good.
