When I read something, be it a book, a magazine or a newspaper article and the author claims detailed analysis, and then makes a glaring error all credibility is lost thereafter.

Has this statement: What other airline wants to serve Fayetteville, North Carolina, Manchester, Vermont, or Columbia, South Carolina from Reagan? Only a carrier with a true hub at the airport can sustain service to such small cities, which requires frequencies; ergo slot share.
NO airline serves Manchester, Vermont. It is a private airport, identified as VT59. It has a 1,900 foot runway that's turf!
Some research....

One of the better ones I've seen. Love this:
"Having disproportionate pricing power is a strange charge to be throwing at anyone in the U.S. airline industry. Since 1990, there have been over 20 bankruptcies of U.S. airlines. All of the legacy carriers whose pricing power the lawyers/economic soothsayers are fretting over have been in bankruptcy within the last ten years.
Here’s an economic insight for the lawyers: If you’re going bankrupt, you don’t have pricing power."

Oracle, PeopleSoft Merger Suggests AMR Corp and US Airways Can Beat DoJ, Wolfe Research Says - Stocks To Watch - Barrons.com
After reviewing DoJ’s complaint in detailed comparison to the failed attempt to block the Oracle/PeopleSoft combination (which even PeopleSoft didn’t want, by the way), it seems to us that DoJ has an uphill battle to convince the Federal Judge that competition will be ‘substantially lessened’ by an AMR/LCC merger. It seems to us that the defense’s position is quite clear, too: DoJ isn’t appropriately defining its relevant market, its analysis in both cases was/is arbitrary and vignette-driven, and it is varying from its prior guidelines on how competitive factors are reviewed while also ignoring fundamental changes to the industry since the merger wave started (mainly higher costs). DoJ also might have opened Pandora’s Box on itself by introducing connecting city pairs in its attempt to quantify harm to the consumer…DoJ might not have to rely on precedent to make its decisions, but the court system does.

Are there any legal experts on this? From what I understand nothing matters from past mergers ect. The only thing the doj needs to prove is one item in their complaint is in violation of section 7 of the clayton act and they win.
