American interviews and class dates

They'll have a much higher QOL this year. Long call quicker, secondary line quicker, primary line quicker, weekends off quicker. Most guys are then being held (at group two rates with the above QOL) for 3 to 9 months. At that point you can pretty much SAP anything you want and pick up/drop whatever you want in open time.
There are two major downsides to the 190, both thanks to this new contract and the crappy group 1 rates.
The first downside is timing your exit. You have to hope there is a permanent bid around your 1 year point. If not, it could cost you a few months of group 2 pay (roughly $42 per hour difference in year two!)
The second and probably biggest is that when the music stops, you don't want to stuck in the right seat (or left seat for that matter) of the 190, the pay difference is massive and a decade stuck there (it could happen) would cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars. To me, this is the only reason not to bid it as a new hire.

Huh? 20 a/c with 240 FO jobs?? 6600+ mandatory retirements in the next 10 years and you think guys are going to get stuck on the E190 for up to a decade?

I don't think he meant that...
I personally like the 190 and if it weren't for the low pay after year 1 and limited location I would stick around. You are correct though with your observations. Year one who really cares because the pay is all the same.
Of course hopefully we will know in the next year the long term fleet plan for the 190.

Think catastrophic aviation event, combined with raising the retirement age again, that's the scenario...

Why sad? In a lot of ways they are lucky.
