It was supposed to go away because of the merger. The only reason for the feb bid was because they ended have to keep the 3 they wanted to park this year because of the doj suit.

I don't think that is right. I have over a year and could not hold CLT 767. I could however hold PHL 767. I don't think they can award positions to new hires without allowing current pilots to bid for it.

The international side of this operation is like working for another airline. You don't learn the bulk of the airline there. I think at least 6 months to a year in the right seat of a narrow body would do everyone good.

Agreed, it's a different world. There were newhires into the 75/76 back in '99. It lasted a little while then they were back to the NBs. Shock to the system HA.....
I still say we go toward the UPS system. 1 pay scale, doesn't matter the equipment. I really don't want the int'l crap when I'm 50+.....

DCA 321 pointed out a few. You almost operate with a 3 man crew. You are generally treated better by all involved with the company. You hotels are better. That's some of the goodies and why so many guys stay on it forever. But if you are going to come back to the domestic side it is good to know the rest of the operation. Not just operate to the same few airports all the time, but fly to the smaller airports, Mexico, Caribbean and learn the rest of the system.
During my first check out as captain I was in class with a guy that got hired and went right to the 767 as IRO-it was a separate bid position when he got hired, then spent all his time there. He didn't make it through OE, he was lost. Now, he was weak anyway, so it wouldn't be as big of an issue with some, but your first check out is probably not the time to be learning the ropes on the rest of the system too.
I think it just makes you more well rounded. IMHO of course.
