Post-POR Vacancies

A few months back folks had shared rumors/speculation of where the flying would shift after the POR (AA737 in CLT, AA777 in PHL, USA320 in ORD, ect.) All of that disappeared when the DOJ splashed the proverbial turd in the punch bowl. Now that things are back on track, has anyone heard anything else on basing after POR?

Haven't heard but I'm very curious as well. I'll take a totally uneducated stab in the dark guess and say it won't happen until we are on, or are very close to being on a single operating certificate. Or at the very least, I would think we would need an integrated scheduling/reserve system which I've been told by a magement pilot would probably be one of the last things to change. Now that I say that, it'll be the day after the POR.

Well, just look at the United/Continental merger. Continental started moving airplanes and opening up bases in United hubs well before SOC. I think within less than a year, a 737 base opened in ORD and DEN shortly followed. It's not impose to say it won't happen.

Moving a/c could also be flown by out of base guys. Make it a 6 day trip or deadhead the crew in.

Lots of variables.

Absolutely. 6 day trips have been pretty common when a base is short of crews or for flying out of a noncrew city. NY has flown trips from London to MIA, DFW, and ORD on the 777 and RDU on the 767. PHL or CLT could be flown by any other base as a 6 day without deadheading and it wouldnt surprise me if they turn to that. Only draw back I can see is in hotel costs during the domestic layover.

I'd say that's a relatively minor consideration. Don't know about AA but at US we routinely have overnights in other domiciles, and if it were that cost-prohibitive they wouldn't do it. Shoot, I've done CLT A320 4-days where all three overnights were in PHL!

Ive done the PHL-PHL-PHL overnights too. Whats weird is its only PHL. You'll never see triple CLT, DCA or PHX overnights.

You're right. I've seen double-CLTs and double-PHXs, but never triple.

A couple 330 classes have been canceled in December timeframe.

What's the reason for that?
