Minimum Flight Hours per Month
Under the current AA contract, what is the minimum number of hours you are obligated to fly in a given month. Can you drop trips to reduce the amount of flight time in your awarded block/ line? Thank you, I have been out for a while and am planning on returning in about 9 months.

Great question...I haven't researched the exact answer, but have been told more than once that you could in theory drop a bid month down to 0 hours with no harm to your benefits, but would then have to fly at least a half month the next month to keep them going. I'm not sure exactly what a half month would be?
FWIW, I am a AD retiree back to AA for about a year now, and routinely drop my line down to just 60-70 hours a month and have never been called about it...
Hope this helps!

Thank you kindly,
I have a day job as an aerospace professor and I really hate to give it up to fly for five more years, but I actaully miss the airline flying and I am in a position where I can get my medical back. Thanks!

Don't end up on the 80, as an FO in DFW if you ever hope to drop any trips. In the last three years, I've had exactly one green trip, and that was a turn on a secondary line. I have been unable to drop or PVD anything.
I'm right around 60%, and my line for next month, is 16 days of flying, three on, two off all month, 83 hours. I'm looking at 93 hours flying, close to 100 hours credit for this month. That includes two reassignments (on the last day), and one reassignment into a day off (four day trip became a five day).
