The 767s will be gone soon. If the green book allows 5 day trips I could see closing the international base and flying any TA from CLT elsewhere. Say JFK-LHR-CLT-LHR-JFK.

Ugh. Of all the bases I can see myself moving to it's CLT, but my career ambitions involve widebody flying in the future, so sick of commuting.

I hear ya. I live close to CLT and am not a good commuter. Counting on having to learn to be, cause Mrs. says no move.

Looking at the largest MSAs and the correlation to airline hubs, CLT is most at risk to becoming irrelevant.

Lots of factors go into it. PHX was #12, yet it is the least profitable L-US hub. CLT was our most profitable and the only really viable SE hub besides ATL. As someone else said, the former CLT airport director kept CLT's costs ultra low, allowing a connecting hub where conventional wisdom said it shouldn't be. A very profitable one. Lots of politics going on in NC right now, I hope they don't screw it up.

Agreed.

DFW shrinking before CLT? I doubt it. DFW is 300+ nm closer to Asia then CLT or PHL. Current thinking is to feed S.A. to Asia via DFW. For central and NE Asia DFW is the shortest route available from S.A. Large S.A. presence might allow AA to become the #1 S.A. to Asia feeder.

American loses $ 20 million a year to Asia.

$850 million trapped in Venezuela.

SA routes underperforming the rest of the airline.

Future of CLT

MIA cannot serve the southeast.

CLT will remain, but will be reduced somewhat. They're already referring to the new CLT international terminal as the new domestic terminal.

American loses $ 60 million per year running 777 ' s to Europe. Wrong airplane for that stage length.

Not to LHR I bet they don't.
