BOS Crew base future
 

Just wondering group thoughts on the BOS crew base.

US closed it.
AA has been shrinking it for years.
Hotels rooms bought each night for US side is high, not sure about AA.

Obviously there are a lot of factors in play for this city.
Will it go by the wayside, will they build it again or status quo?

Not sure why they'd reopen it after doing such a good job of handing the entire f'n airport to JetBlue.

I don't think they'd have to reopen it per se.....as I think AA has a base there.....

wonder how many LUS guys would love a vacancy there?

along the same lines as LAA guys wanting CLT PHL PHX and LUS guys wanting MIA DFW LGA etc etc etc......poker chips...where will they fall?

I dunno but it will be really interesting when it happens. Can't wait personally.

One would think that for airports of a certain size, of which Boston definitely is, it would make sense to let it be a domicile rather than spend money on hotels. Back in the day when flying was scheduled on paper by hand and crews had to come in to pick up their manual revisions, sure, centralized super-domiciles made sense. But in 2014 with powerful scheduling software and iPads for manuals, we ought to be able to have a bunch of smaller domiciles. Heck, the company could even pitch it as a QOL improvement.

Of course, this probably won't happen. Because it makes sense.

Ah, this reminds me of a Youtube that I was watching last year. It was some guy who videotaped his computer in the eighties, doing wild and exciting cutting-edge eighties-type computer bboard and dial-up things.

It was a blast from the past, up until the 10 minute mark when he went onto Sabre to get his cutting-edge eighties flying needs met.

It's identical to what I use every time I go into work.

Sabre is far more arcane than CATS, count yourself lucky.

There is language in the contract allowing the company to open virtual bases with no chief pilot and associated facilities. Reserve needs would be covered by a nearby base. It's all predicated on PBS, trade board, and ipads. It's worth reading the actual language, if implemented it would be a huge money saver for the company and hence I would expect it to be fast tracked.

My prediction: once the necessary components are in place sometime late next year, AA will close the BOS chief pilot's office on the LAA side and open up BOS as a virtual base. This could happen even before final SLI.

And let's not forget the reams of paper pouring out of dot matrix stations.
