Plan is to go paperless...
Printing out the paperwork is one chore at LAA that we still have to do, but the CCI app at least makes it much more user friendly. You can print the paperwork to any printer you designate (it defaults to your gate's printer) and it can be there waiting for you. Or, if you are old school, you can log into any available airport computer/printer and do it there. Smart captains pick gates not working a flight so they don't get passenger questions!
As an FO I really love the CCI app. You can save all pertinent papers such as the TPS, flight plan, and even crew/hotel info, right onto your iphone or ipad. That way if you head to the jet early you don't have to wait on any printed paperwork. They are telling us that the next step, coming soon, will be a paperless cockpit, where the above mentioned CCI app paperwork will be legal to use for the flight, and the captain just signs off everything electronically. Heck LAA captains already do an electronic sign-off--all we are really waiting for is a 3G/4G connection on our company ipads so we can get the paperwork away from wifi locations. So I think the merged "New American" can look forward to this too...:) |
Thanks for the info turtle.

I am not going to "quote" the FM here because of SSI and copyright issues but suffice to say that if YOU don't follow it you do so at YOUR own risk. And no, there are NO QOUTES out of "Mein Kampf" in it. As for MY brain, you would do well to manage your OWN brain first before you worry about others "brains". |

I AM looking forward to it because I want to do what Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid wants us conservatives to do and "save the trees"!!! |

Why don't you have a look at C&R when you look at other brains! Scary! I am using and have been using mine for a safe operation and have successfully done so for over 20 years. Pilots who only refer to the manual are usually the most insecure and pain in the butt (not the safest) pilots to fly with. |

Americans way to plot a track takes about 2 minutes. So it's not hard. Probably better to plot it ourselves so there are no mistakes. Some stations plot it for you, like AMS, and I have seen mistakes. Pretty sure the one who flies it wrong would get busted vs the one who plotted it from their office  |

You mean. Jamaica....NEW YORK?? Which one? Or are you referring to the Airbus that crashed shortly after 9/11? Look, nobody is perfect but the FM is a REQUIRED document to operate by under NORMAL circumstances. That is the point. If you want to go off the reservation for some reason be prepared to justify it if and when the time comes. That's all. BTW, I have used MY brain all of my career as well (40+) and I'm accident free (there by the grace of the supreme being). I wouldn't tempt fate if I were you. Nevertheless, feel free to "toss out" the FM or better yet, just march to the beat of your OWN drummer and we'll see how that "logical brain" of yours operates if and when the time comes. The F/O's I fly with "get it" and I don't seem to be winding up on anybody's no fly list as of yet. |
