Thread Revival.
Given the upcoming June ‘19 bid (which should be big), how jr would you all guess the Gp 4 positions will go in each base? Also, with 78s arriving and no other Gp 4 aircraft retiring, Gp 4 positions are increasing slowly correct?

When I was hired in early 2014, PHL 330 was awarded to a 2012 pilot. Which made me hopeful of jumping on it by 2016. That guy has since been displaced and reinstated, and is still pretty much the bottom guy, so its gone from 2 years to 6.

Possibly. But they are also canceling augmented flights like ORD-PEK (ORD-NRT next?) and using the aircraft for flights such as ORD-CUN, SFO-DFW. So even with additional airframes it could be a wash as Vasu turns AAL into the worlds biggest regional airline.

G4 seats are increasing so you'd expect it to go more junior over time.

Do you think we should stay in markets that have never made money?

I would like to know why we can’t make money in those markets? Do we just have an inferior product? Poor management? Our operations are clearly bush league. With a few decades left to go it has me worried.
The huge amount of Group 4 domestic pairings looks like mgt has no plan. Are we going to be a seasonal service airline? I wouldn’t be surprised to see those future 787 orders handed over to one of our JV partners. We already seem to have more than we need. If we can’t successfully operate to China and India then we certainly are going to struggle nearly everywhere where we don’t already have a large competitive advantage.

The Asian market is trash bc of all the Chinese carriers dumping seats. You c an get fares to China for $500 from pretty much anywhere in the US.
With over 3 decades left i worry too. However, I’d rather see management utilize the airplanes in the best way possible to maximize profits.
Btw United and Delta also fly lots of wide bodies in the domestic system during the winter.

The 787 deliveries for 2019 is either 2 or zero. The new 787-8 deliveries start in 2020 -12 and total 22. The 25 787-9's start in 2023.

Hard to say... lots of unknowns...
A big one is replacement ratios... 1 for 1 would be amazing but seems like a pipe dream. The article says they’ll eventually replace A330-3, older777-2 and 767 that’s a lot of planes that are on property today. 89 total when we take current deliveries and I’m sure there’s more options... but at 89 we’re way short. It will be fun to be here and watch it unfold. I hope we can all grow old with the 787. Fingers crossed.

Meh, I'd have given anything to retire on the 350.
I wonder if AA will go all 787, or if they'll eventually replace our aging 777s with the new 777-X variant(s). From my limited knowledge, I hear the 787 can't quite perform/earn the way a 777 can.
