Dear, all

I am FAA CPL, IR, MEL, with A&P and IA,
i got a job as flight engineer for this ACJ, privately owned.
i have the following questions, so hopefully you guys can help me please.

1. since ACJ is more 125000lbs, so i need a type rating on my CPL, so i need PIC or SIC rating?
2. can I log hours when i got my ACJ ratings, when i am sitting at observer seat?
3. or I have to sit in either Capt or FO seat then can log the hours?
4. can I act as relief pilot? which not involved take off and landings?

What’s a flight engineer on an airplane w/o a flight engineer? Ans: A passenger. Observer seat doesn’t count, either.

If they put you in a pilot’s seat at any time between start and shutdown, you will need at least a SIC rating in type. In many areas of the world, you’ll need the ATP.

You need an ATP (perhaps a “frozen” one, depending on CAA) and a type rating, then you can log time. The CAA may issue a restricted “cruise pilot” rating but that might be only for carriers holding an AOC. Usually, the rating says something like “valid for flight above FL200”. Otherwise, no loggable time
