Statement from Pilot Credentials

Southwest Airlines Pilot Requirements:
Letters of Recommendation: At least three letters from any individuals who can attest to the pilot's flying skills, by having observed him/her over a sustained period of time.

Questions: Did people who were invited to an interview attach these recommendations to the pilot credential application or were these needed at the interview? Who did you use? Friends from previous flying jobs or current crew?

Attach them to the pilot credentials app, then hand carry when selected for an interview. Iíd use people that know you well, SWA pilots if possible, and will answer the phone and say nice things about you when they get called. I hand carried four LORís and used those same people as my three references to be called. None of mine were SWA people for what itís worth.

I didn't accumulate LORs until I had the interview scheduled. I had a couple of internal recs (no letters) at the time my app was picked. Brought 4 external LORs to the interview and had 6 internal recs, but no letters from them.

I did attach the external LORs to the Pilot Credentials app when I got them.

I hand carried mine to the interview. They donít care before then. Once you are selected for the interview, anyone at SWA can submit an internal recommendation for you. From what I understand, Recs turn you from a ďmaybeĒ to a ďyesĒ post interview, but no rec will turn an interview ď noĒinto a ďyesĒ.

Thanks for the information. I keep double checking my app as I haven't had any luck getting past the computer selection process. Iím currently flying a Boeing product and have close to 8000hrs. There must be a lot of well qualified pilots in the stack.

My class I thought was pretty diverse backgrounds. Corporate, regionals, Navy, Air Force, from 35-55 years old. Lots of experience all around. Not sure what the magic combo is for the computer to pluck your name, except to keep doing what you are doing. Fly, be a leader, keep the app updated and airtight. Like everything, it is mainly some combination of luck and timing. So good luck!

Don't know how true it is, but I have heard to help get past the computer, your employment history needs to all butt up. Example if you left a job on Aug 9th, your next job on the list needs to start on Aug 9th. Can't really verify this but it's what I heard.

Anybody know of someone getting called with no Jet PIC time? I see they removed the restriction and made it preferred but itís still a question in the icims application.

There are always exceptions, but the vast majority seem to have jet PIC, if not 1000+ jet PIC.

Is this something that pops up after getting the interview?

Thanks Battery Bus. Southwest is my #1 choice. Unfortunately I lack TPIC and donít want to make a backwards move to get TPIC time.

For what it's worth, I was hired earlier this year with no jet PIC time, but several thousand hours of turboprop time, along with lots of jet SIC.
