It says they may use it to bring Ohana in-house. If they set up a flow or career progression program to HAL I'd leave my current shop tomorrow.

Would would they have you go from Ohana to Compass ? Ohana guys already have a guaranteed interview at HAL...
If HAL had control over hiring , training and culture at Empire they'd probably be more likely to consider a "flow" like program. The only reason I think HAL could benefit from acompass flow is if they ran out of applicants, which won't happen any time soon in my estimation.

The rumor for the past year or two has been a preferential interview or flow type of deal from Compass to Hawaiian. I don't think it will happen because Hawaiian doesn't really gain anything except pilots from the mainland who work cheap for the first year and bail with their new A330 rating. I agree that there will potentially be a flow from Ohana to Hawaiian, but Hawaiian has always emphasized that they like to see pilots with Mainland experience. I've heard of people jumping ship from Ohana to mainland regional carriers just to get that experience.

I agree entirely. I have heard personal accounts of guys having to get some mainland time before HAL gives them the thumbs up. In my case I've been on the mainland since 250hrs and the stories of needing mainland time is what motivated me to stay out here rather than move back home once I was ATP qualified. Not sure if 1200 hrs 135 sic mainland and 400hrs 121 mainland is enough but we will cross that bridge when it comes, if the Ohana opportunity ever does materialize.

Assuming you meet the hiring minimums at the time, it historically has not been difficult to get an interview at HAL. Getting hired is a different matter.

I know a few pilots that flew at Ohana and left for Compass, Skywest or AQ Cargo, then got on with Hawaiian. They said there are a few that went directly from Ohana to HAL, but many get rejected. The word on the street was that HAL wants to see jet time.
Maybe that will change now that they have the WP certificate.

The people that go straight from Ohana to Hawaiian probably have previous mainland/jet time as well.

I see a lot of people mentioning Compass. Any reason why Compass and not any other regional?

My mistake, it is 4 from WP.
Compass and Skywest seem to supply a lot of the new hires, many from Compass are Hawaii residents.

Pilots from HI pick Compass over the others because they can get LAX as a base right out of training and they guaranteed to fly E175

What's the status of Hawaiian purchasing the Island Air certificate? Last I heard was a court hearing on January 5th and the price to buy the certificate decreased. Haven't heard anything since then.
