View Full Version : FO Domiciles out of training

I have gone back through the posts and some people are talking about how some of the domiciles are really saturated with FOs right now. Does anyone have an idea of what the current snapshot to hold a line is by FO based on airframe and domicile? The company profile only gives out captains by airframe and domicile.

Also, I have read that seniority in each new hire class is based on age, as a 29 year old, what are the odds of getting the 175 in training or is it just a total guess until its time to pick?

Thank you.

If you arenít a cadet and donít have any prior 121 then you will not get the 175 at any base. Going to be the 145 LGA or ORD, or even possibly worse, the CRJ.

One other thing. Apparently recruiting is putting everyone into a pool so if you fall into either of those two categories then it might be a few months before you even see a class date. Iíd definitely make sure youíre updating your applications with the other regionals. They donít need low time FOís. They need people ready to upgrade.

Thank you for the quick response, I have 0 prior 121 time and am not currently a cadet. ORD would be fine for me (would live in base), but I have heard the stories about commuting to LGA.

Lead time to a class date should not be a huge issue, I am a few months out from being available. Are the 175 drops that few and far between or are there just that many cadets?

Thanks

There is never any guarantee about what will be in any given class, whether you are talking about pilots or aircraft and bases. But if you look back at the last several months, they are down to about 30 pilots a class with typically 3-6 cadets and 2-4 prior 121 which choose in that order (unless they are captain qualified, then they just get the 145 to LGA). Then it goes by age. At 29 you will be towards the bottom of the stack. There have been about 9 175s and they tend to go first. There may or may not be any ORD 145s. It is always hard to tell whether or not there will be any CRJs in a class and sometimes they go early and sometimes late.

You will never fly the 175 as an FO at Envoy at 29 unless youíre a cadet.

Or get a CRJ and get displaced when they park them.

This is a bit rough, but don't be too disheartened. Every class is different, and a lot has to do with the priorities of your classmates and a bit of chance.

In my class, the 175 didn't get picked until the third person selected, and the CRJ slots were all gone several picks before the end. So, the youngest guys in class ended up in the 145.

No cadets, and only 1 prior 121 guy picked the 175. All the 175 slots except for that one went to people who were selecting based on their age.

Don't pick a company based on equipment, at least in a vacuum. There are WAY more important factors that should go into your decision making.

And, as was mentioned, you could just try and go for the CRJ knowing they are going away. You will end up with a worthy type on your certificate, and know the end-game could you see you getting displaced exactly where you want to be.

Think two years out, not two months.

I had not considered the CRJ but you bring up some good points about it being in ORD and potentially being able to displace.

As far as equipment goes, I would be happy flying all 3 planes, the desire for the 175 was just from wargaming getting to where I would like to be based. Getting to ORD should be no problem as it seems to be far junior to DFW and living in base is what is the most important.

145 should not be too bad, but I think there is a chance, especially with the summer and the potential for expanded operations out of LGA to be stuck commuting for a while before I can hold ORD even on reserve. This could end up being just a few months, where in the scheme of things its not too bad.

Based on the input here I think I would still prefer the 175, then the CRJ, then the 145.

Thank you.

I've heard two versions of that
One - 15 CRJs left as of December 2018 with one a month going thereafter, fleet parked when 5 left, so figure October 2019.
Another - still going at one a month, fleet parked when 10 left - so figure what, February 2019?
Meh, we'll see

Any estimates on how long it would take for an FO to get based out of MIA? My family and I will be living about 3.5hrs down the road and about 35mins from MCO if I decided to commute via air.

I've been trying to get my hands on an Envoy route map but my efforts have proven unsuccessful. I've also looked on AA's website but it doesn't appear that you can filter by carrier.

Thanks!

Roughly 6-8 months, maybe sooner maybe longer depending on a multitude of factors when you join.

As for our routes, they change on a monthly basis serving the needs of AA.

As a guy who is about to use RTP for the multi rating in a few weeks (already ASEL CFII) do you have any idea if Iíd be looking at months to get into a class? Or is that for people who are just now interviewing?

The company invests a lot of cash into RTP candidates for their conversion training. They probably want to get you in class as soon as possible to recoup the value of that investment.
