Maybe Mesa is working to get these planes instead of Go Jet. Thatís why JO said he wants to buy more 700s.

And maybe no one has to lose flying when expressjet starts flying the ejet.

If we had our old contract we might be screwed right now JO would have been able to tremendously cut cost giving all 700 captains a pay cut flying 50 seat 700s.

Nothing. UAL has room to add 50 seat flying.

Lol. This is just Unitedís management recognizing that their pilot union is not going to give on scope. So, their solution to expanded regional flying is 70 seat Ejets and 50 seat 700ís. I expect our 700ís to be reconfigured in this manner while we expand our Ejet fleet.

No one is losing flying. United wants to expand regional flying.

Could you imagine a 700 with all first class seating? Or at least tons of leg room? Would make for one of the nicest rides around.

The CRJ550 is a major overhaul and recertification program of existing CRJ700 airframes to meet Unitedís 50 seat scope clause. Supposedly with large luggage bins to eliminate gate side bag checkin and the galley is replaced with a self-serve drink and snack station. The seating is 10 first class, 20 economy plus, and 20 economy. Hopefully, a second lav will be available. It will be interesting seeing how it is laid out.

Legend Airlines did almost this exact thing out of DAL but with DC-9 30 series. Then AA did it with F100’s and put them out of business though a combination of juuuuuust barely not predatory pricing and lawsuits. I actually rode on both, Legend’s product was fantastic other than the fact that the airplanes didn’t always have the legs to make it non-stop from LGA-DAL.

Edit: The Legend Chief Pilot was an EAL scab, so it’s tough for me to be upset at AA dropping the hammer on them.

Could be. Although, no need to park any airframes. United has been clear that a 145 or a 200 cannot compete with a E175 or another dual class airframe in the same market by a competitor (usually American out of ORD).

The CRJ550 is a paper change, new government stamp and a marketing name. Nothing major about it from an airplane perspective.

He ended up at Fed Ex, so the hammer didnít fall that hard.
