JetBlue announced new service to London today.

Itís cool though, last year we announced starting service to Paine field in RJs!!!!!!!!!!!! We are good.

Can you believe the nerve of these guys flying long distances in airbii? They should have bought the 737 for these long routes.

God I wish we worked for an airline with any level of creativity or thirst for growth.

Take it easy on the guy. He fully expected to be an astronaut by now. VX was in the process of signing the flow through to Virgin Galagtic when crappy ol’, Earth based, Alaska bought them. Can’t blame the guy for being mad he’s spending his nights in Dallas instead of the Moon. In the last 3 years, VX was sure to not only become an international powerhouse, but an intergalactic one as well. Now the guy’s doomed to fly in the lower atmosphere with the rest of us schmucks.

It is always helpful if we remember that Alaska Airlines is truly a Regional Airline. According to the Song n Dance guy with the accent at Fight Path all of the west coast trans cons are bleeding cash...some badly. The only trans-cons that make a profit are from the Pac North West. More specifically from SEA as PDX in his words is flat or makes a tiny profit. He went on to say afterwards that North/South does well only because we are hauling Seattleites. That we have struggled to capture any Californians which is why we lose money flying east out of California....Sounds like a regional to me when the is virtually no O&D traffic south of Portland or east of Spokane.

No.... he didnít have that in mind. But what he DOES know.... is that, if the airline that wanted to buy him for actual growth, as an offensive as opposed to defensive move had been able to do so before being C-blocked, heíd, A. Have a better contract. B. Have scope. C. Have slope. D. Still gotten a good pay raise. E. Been able to prob continue living where he already lived. F. Had a better QOL. G. Still flown transcons. H. Still flown to Hawaii. I. Been able to fly north and south on BOTH coasts. J. Now be looking at flying to Europe.

So, yeah. I believe Iíd cut him some slack. L-AS Boeing btw

So you’re saying his aspirations at VX we’re to be purchased and the only way for those things to happen at VX was indeed a buy out? Then why complain about something that wasn’t happening in ones career before and isn’t now? It’s become endless complaining for the sake of complaining. AS has been going to HI for more than a decade but as soon as SWA begins HI the complaining starts that we’re going to lose all our pax and our 737 service is going to be inferior to their 737 service. Now JB announces London and the complaint is that we’re not going to Europe and we have no growth. So I see that with these guys, it wouldn’t matter if we were going into a market or not because with them, we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. He doesn’t like AS, I get it and that’s perfectly fine. What wears me out is the complaining as if VX was going to be growing into an international success and AS prevented that from happening. The guy is doing the exact same type of flying the day the acquisition was announced and was content to do for his career. How many big international airlines are there? If you aren’t already, you’ll be bald from pulling out your hair worrying about what every other airline does.

Wrong. I would have been completely content with the way things were at virgin for the long haul... and contrary to the popular belief of many at legacy Alaska, Vx was growing and was profitable when we were purchased.

There is absolutely nothing that is the same about my day to day operation as was at virgin, which is why I despise Alaska...one hop across the pacific or transcon (and we filled them
up, unlike the bleeding money show Alaska does on transcons)has turned into 4 and 5 leg regional flying, our qol has been destroyed, and our one option to not be based on the west coast has closed down....so while I was content being a Vx pilot forever, if we were to be bought, Iím disgusted that it was by visionless Alaska. As was previously mentioned, had jet blue not been cblocked by the wonderful most west coast horror show, Vx pilots day to day would much more closely mirror what we had instead of going back 30 years in a time machine to the Seattle Seahawks hometown airline... and ps itís comical that Alaska spends so much time, money, and effort on Russel Wilson and seahawks nonsense while the Seahawks think so little of this joke of an airline that they take their business to delta hahahaha

Iím saying that prior to the purchase their were TWO other possibilities for a VXírs fate. A. Chart their own destiny via nogatiations. (Of course that could go three ways, backward, forward, or static.) OR.... the most likely scenario, purchased by a suitor that at the time, and at least for the moment, going forward, brought a better package to the table. If SWA purchased us right now, closed down sat PDX as a crew base, re-assigned BWI as your new option, jacked your quality of life, work rules living situation etc... and said ďCongrats Alaska! We saved you from shrinking into oblivion.... you should be greatful because you just got a 20% pay raise.Ē Youíd be ****ed too prob. Prob even more ****ed if you knew Delta was about to be the purchased but Southwest simply outbid them.

VXírs are ****ed about some pie in the Sky notion about what their fate wouldíve been left alone in five years, theyre A. Disappointed that what they consider a better merger partner wasnít the buyer, but wanted to be. B. That the reaction by some is ďBe greatful... we saved your a$$.

They MIGHT, have been overboard and treading water... but Royal Caribbean had already launched the life boats when what they consider Carnival Cruise lines, scooped em up in a fishing net.

The only reason Iím even explaining this is.... the sooner more L-AS pilots can understand the L-VX perspective, the sooner we can put this behind us and move forward in unity

Couldn't agree with you more. I totally understand where the L-VX pilots are coming from. For the L-AS pilots who think the Airbus guys and gals are whining, just try to listen and have empathy. The JFK closure was the ultimate shaft job, IMHO, not to mention a decision by Angle Lake that will bite them in the future. Imagine having an East Coast crew base when **** hits the fan on the Eastern Seaboard.

In any case, it's easy for all of us to be negative and feel frustrated, but that's all thanks to B&B's actions (or lack there of).

Let's make this a better place to work for the entire pilot group.

What's your obsession with VX? You're the one bringing it up all the time. Every now and then you make a good point, but this whole battered wife routine you go into is really starting to wear thin.

No one is talking about Virgin except you. No one defends Alaska management, their abuses, and lack of vision more than you.

You're so defensive that you immediately pipe up with the whataboutisms... it's stale. I can't believe that I have to say it again. The first step to improving your situation is recognizing that it sucks. Wake up.

There's recognition of the situation and then there's endless complaining for the sake of complaining and that's what's stale.

Everything that happens no matter what it is, conjurs up another round of the same complaints molded to fit the current circumstance. All you guys do is plagiarize the last guys complaints and put a different thread title on it.

If another airline does anything, we're doomed. If another airline doesn't do something, we're doomed.

You've got me figured all wrong bud. I understand you're situation probably better than most. I've lived it. Base closures, check. Forced into a transcon commutes, check. Downsized and furloughs, check.

My beef is the contant chicken little bull******. I know the score here at AS and I know what needs to improve. I advocate constantly for it. Never have I defended AS management. You pull that out of your a** because it sounds better to you and your friends. I'm on your team but I cringe when people constantly complain about their situation especially when many aspect of their former situation was similar.

Why focus on only their one positive news, even that being 2 yrs down the road. How about their big negative news on the west coast? They were just forced to give up 11 of their 33 slots at LGB. 1/3 their LGB capacity to be gone. What do you think that means for their LGB base? A base already hard to get for them is about to become even more senior. I know a guy at jetblue who lives in California that commutes to JFK and is absolutely ticked off at the LGB news. He said he doesnít care much for London. Go figure.

Itís not all plum and rosey at jetBlue.

Haha empathy! Itís the one thing missing from the SEA base. The dynamic revolving around how our commuters are treated, the housing crisis, combined with our pay is an outstanding example of how our AS is entirely devoid of empathy.

ďOh you didnít buy a house 15 years ago? Youíre an idiot who doesnít deserve to work here!Ē

Alaska's management definitely placed a valuation on their equity in this petty tribal bickering before they "overpaid" for Virgin. They also understand that merely substandard T&Cs are likely to be viewed differently by the significant portion of their current pilot group who have previously shown a willingness to accept absurdly bad conditions just to get a foot in the door. It's hard to imagine anything even close to parity with industry standards emerging from the next contract cycle.

So, I was at a restaurant one night talking to a flight attendant. She said she worked for a major. I named everyone I could possibly think of. Delta, United, American, Southwest, Jet Blue, spirit, Virgin...

Whatís more interesting is I honestly tried to name every airline I could think of. Never got it right.
