View Full Version : Interview denial

Shortly after applying to Sun Country I got an email saying my app had been reviewed and I would not be offered an interview. Is this normal? I'd never heard of an airline doing this as opposed to just not giving an interview. Currently I'm an LCA at a regional, 4 year degree, clean training record and no FAA violations.

They probably figure you will not likely stick around very long. I've heard many guys say they are on their way out only being at sunny a year or less. Maybe getting rid of the training contract wasn't a good idea. People come in with TPIC, get a new type and check off the last box the real airlines are looking for.

That makes sense, it just seemed weird for them to send an email rather than just not giving me an interview.

Possible but not sure I would completely agree. Plenty of people have come here with lots TPIC, itís entirely possible there is another unknown reason based on your resume. Have you had your resume reviewed by a professional? Perhaps a professional airline resume review would help.
Again, itís possible as said above but there are many who have come here for other reasons i.e., family (wife, elderly parents), location, kids schooling, sports, etc... with heaps of TPIC even in the 737...who have no desire to commute at any price!

I agree with the above. Sounds strange to get a denial response instead of no response at all. I would definitely double check your app for errors like accidentally clicking "Yes" on the "Are you a registered sex offender?" question. Sounds like you have solid qualifications and the application stack is NOT a tall one.

This. But that begs the question: are they sending out emails to everyone saying we aren't going to give you an interview? Or just putting everything on hold?

FWIW. As of last Saturday, I was told by a senior ops mgr, hiring would continue with CJOs being offered to those successful in interview.

Since my short time here, their plans have changed literally DAILY. We've been getting updates directly from senior management and the training department as they develop, and it's been constantly changing.

Last week we were told they're hiring at 20 per month, now they say instead they're planning 8 per month. People from upcoming classes have said that some of them have been pushed back to later class dates. Routes have been cut and flying reduced due to the current events.

I feel at this rate, there will probably be several more changes before the dust settles. We shall see...

My apologies. I was mistaken about the hiring. Word now is hiring will continue, although since there isn't as much pressure the class sizes will be paired back a skosh to ease the load on the training department. "As planned" has been purported to be 150 for 2020 or about 12 per month. I think class sizes of 10-12 would be a reasonable expectation based on what we have been told over the last few months. Of course, things are changing hour by hour with the pandemic so who knows if tomorrow will be a whole different story.

Latest memo from management indicates they're still planning on hiring, but numbers down slightly to 12 in April, and 6 in May.

Of course, this was discussed right before March Madness was canceled (supposedly around 25% of our revenue this time of year), so who knows what impact that will have, if any.

I think itís a fluid situation. Maybe we were hiring 2days ago but Iím guessing that may change. Iím assuming email will come out today updating the operation after NCAA charter flying is toast. I wouldnít be surprised if the Laughlin casino charter flying gets grounded soon (usually an older crowd on those flights).

Next to be scaled after the above will be more scheduled capacity Iím assuming??

i think we got the pilots to do some scheduled flying and the 10 Amazon birds when they show up.

Delta is parking 300 aircraft and American is retiring their 757/767 fleet. I wouldn't consider going anywhere if you have some seniority at any airline right now...

Someone posted on another forum that their class was suspended. Donít have anymore details than that.

Yeah I havenít seen anything official but I heard the check airman got an email on Friday saying April and May classes are cancelled along scrapping the plan to use sim time in Phoenix.

I think they were planning to finish up those currently in training as of last week but itís a fluid situation and by Monday or Tuesday they may be announcing plans to furlough and park airplanes. Stay tuned
