View Full Version : UAL Question

Trying to find out a few things. How many total furloughs did UAL have? Most "senior" hire date furloughed? When did they ground the DC-10"s? Any talk of a cargo operation again?
Also, how do airlines handle placement when called back? Aircraft type, base, position, seniority, etc.. Thank you!

Their were a total of 2172 pilots furloughed at United. The furloughs went back as far as Spring of 99. I could be off on the last date of hire pilot fuloughed.

The DC-10 were grounded at the end of 2000. Currently their is not talk of a cargo operation at United.

When the furloughees were called back they were given an aircraft bid sheet with domicle selection to fill out. Two weeks before class the company would decide how aircraft and domicles they were going to offer the returning class. At that time the Bob Neil, the gentleman in charge of contacting furloughees, would assign the aircraft and domicle according to seniority in that class. Class seniority was by your hire date.

Hope that helps.
