I know from previous threads that if yoiu are hired at United, yoiu have to sign something saying you wont "spill the beans" to everyone else as to what the interview is like. So my question is, is there anyone out there who has interviewed but didnt get hired that could shed some light on what questions are asked in the interview? I know its a long shot, but I figured I would ask anyway.

You sign it before you interview, not only if you're hired.

I interviewed successfully last week. I would recommend getting the gouge for the Delta interview. If you can answer the technical questions for the Delta interview. That is, if you know why the answer is correct and not only the correct answer (i.e. know the math formulas), then you will be fine for the UAL interview.

The HR portion of the interview had no surprises. Have some good TMAAT stories. If you have gouge for interviews, then you will do fine.

C-17 Driver - If you don't mind. What day did you interview & when did you get the offer. I interviewed on the 20th and am still waiting by the phone. Thanks in advance.

Took me eight days. You probably weren't looked at until the end of this week.

I interviewed on 19 Sep and got the formal offer today. They have a hiring review board that meets every Thursday. (They didnt' meet last week). The captain that interviewed me called my home phone but I wasn't there b/c I'm on an overseas mission (great flight 10.7 hours w/ an IFE at the end...yippee) and won't be home until next week.

The captain left her number w/ my wife and I called the captain today and she made the formal offer. In case you haven't heard, I was offered a job at CAL a couple of days ago and should find out about DAL next week. I have a tough decision to make..

Great info all, thanks.

Question for those who have interviewed-- did you do any formal interview prep? If so, who did you use? I've heard good things about Emerald Coast but curious if there is a better service.

I understand "interviewees" are sworn to secrecy but could someone perhaps indicate a ratio of technical questions versus TMAAT questions? If unable to answer I fully understand, thanks anyway.

I just recieved an email to call to schedule an interview. Just looking to be as prepared as possible.

Congrats to you lucky new hires! Hope to join you soon.

If you get the Delta interview gouge and study it very hard, you will do just fine at the interview. Don't memorize the questions and answers. Know why the answers are correct. I also spent $10 on the Mental Math for pilots online program. It was a great review because part of the program is written questions and the other is audio. (http://scdamlib.securesites.com/cgi-bin/cagemstore/staging/shop.pl?fid=shop_display_products&category_id=3&product_id=501#501) It was a good use of $10 by far. Make sure you know how to read Jepps charts. I'm serious when I say that is all I studied to prepare for my DAL, UAL, and CAL interview for the tehcnical portion. If you are comfortable with the DAL gouge, you should do just fine.

The TMAAT questions are not cosmic. Again, I did not hear anything at the UAL interview that was not a surprise. I prepped over the phone w/ Judy Tarver. I really think she is excellent and her credentials speak for themselves. Once you pay the fee, you have call her for subsequent interview preps at no additional charge.

Above all else, be honest with them and yourself at the interview. Show them you are genuinely happy to be there and are really excited about the opportunity. Good luck.

OK, I just did the UAL interview yesterday. How long did some of you wait until you heard yes or no? Is it a case of a phone call is good and a e-mail is bad, or could it go either way? Just wondering how long it might be before I hear something. Thanks.

The board meets every Thursday. Expect to be contacted next Thursday or Friday via email [bad news] or phone call [good news]

Hey all, just had my interview today. HR lady said that the board now meets every two weeks, as they have hired everyone for '07. Myself and two other guys were being interviewed for '08. Any idea when the last board met? Just trying to figure out if I have to wait a week or two....

I am pretty sure the last time it met was on 27 Sep. I interviewed on 19 Sep and I was called on the 28th. If it is every 2 weeks, then I think the board meets this Thursday. A phone call will have good news and email will have not so good news.

On a different note, I spoke w/ the manager of new hire pilots (Capt Michael G.) and he confirmed that there will be a hiring of 300 pilots next year. I asked him if I could pass that info on and he said it was ok to let people know. That number was not because of expansion, he said he just needs pilots to fill the seats. He indicated that the number would be higher if expansion happens.

300 is a great number with no expansion in mind. If/when...expansion happens things could get exciting for those who are joining now.:D I wonder when the 08 classes will start. Probably not much of a break, I would expect them to follow quickly.

It was recently put out that they intend to hire between 250 and 300 next year, but it was also stated that number would be greatly reduced if the age 60 rule changes this year. I'll refrain from commenting on that issue.....

How much time is someone looking at from the "you're hired" call to a class date? Anyone know the interview pass rate?

manfred33

C-17 Driver, thanks for the info!! Was hoping it might be this Thurs... Anybody have any idea how many applicants they have been getting? I think somebody touched on this in another thread, but not sure what the consensus is. Like i said, there were two other guys with me in the afternoon, and apparently only one interviewee in the morning. Seems to me that they would have quite a plethora of people clammering to get on with them. I know of at least one guy from my company that has been hired, and I think the last class date is supposed to be mid-Dec?

I would also be interested in a interview-pass rate. Somebody said that if you get the face-to-face, you're 90% of the way there, so don't know how big of a moron you have to sound like to lose the job. Essentially, I'm hoping that I'm not one of those morons, although I have my doubts sometimes.... :p
