Olympic Air is the new company ... but ... most pilots of the old will not be flying for them, Long range routes are done so are the A340s. It's a whole different company, the real OLYMPIC is gone ... good luck to the new OLYMPIC as we call it!

My father worked for OAL for 30 years in Chicago and Washington DC as Manager of Governmental Affairs dealing with the DOT. Actually had dinner with Mr. Onassis a couple of times.........

Sad to see it go.

Just to give you an idea ... a senior captain with 15 years went from 18,000 dollars a month to 10,500 dollars after tax... :(

Are you still flying for them?

That 18k figure I imagine was for the Heavy 4-engined stuff. Is that 10k figure for the same equipment?

Who did the original Olympic pilots get replaced with? What happened with the old guys?

Sad what is happening in this industry worldwide.

Worst is, there is no shortage of guys happy with the offers being given. You should see some of the crap being offered by the LCCs of Europe..

You were paid by YEARS, regardless of equipment .. the HEAVY guys would get paid the same pay as the ATR guys. (Heavy guys would see a bit more because of all the layover pay)

Everyone was making a lot of money, making 18k AFTER taxes is unheard of in our industry nowadays, thank their Union for that and of course the Government run scheme, which in the end was the downfall.

No I do not fly for the new Olympic ...

The new OLYMPIC either consists of a few guys from the old Olympic, and mostly pilots from the competitor Aegean.

The Government just before closing the old Olympic approved a law for the pilots which is one of the reasons none returned to flying.

The law allows all non returning pilots to receive 70% of their monthly pay check for the next 6 years and full pention which comes close to 500,000 dollars TAX FREE. They will also give you a position with the Greek FAA either working as an examiner or in the office.

That is a pretty awesome system. No wonder none of the OGs didnt stick around. Pretty good deal.
