Net profit= $757 million, CFO states "we have more cash flow than we know what to do with." IPA offers $136+ million in cost savings "working together" with UPS. Result- 300 families terrorized for MORE. Time for an effective PR campaign. Corporate greed is a hot topic and this is an election year...

It has already begun by BT in the CourierJournal.com. Need to expose this place for what it really is!

Welcome to capitalism, democracy and corporate America.

Verizon just laid off 15,000...Wall Street laid off 25,000 while their CEOs took billions in bonuses. You really think this will garner any interest?

No one will cry about 300 "rich" pilots being unemployed. Especially in this economy.

"Karma" my friend.

No disagreement there except for the "rich" part. I just had my first good salary in almost 20 years in this business (save one at AMR prior to that furlough). I averaged less than 40K in those years. I have a house that isn't selling in another state with a very expensive move back from over 3000 miles away in Alaska where my employer is dumping me. I didn't save much this year because I was on "B" scale MOU duty.

Rich? I think not.

Read it. That will be as effective as the mechanics' billboards.

UPS has already called the 170. Where was the union making the corresponding phone calls like in 2003? We seem to be engaging in a reactionary rather than a forward thinking strategy.

The Union Never Called Me Back In 03! I Don't Expect Much From The Company Or The Union. This Place Is Just Another Outfit With An Association.
This Is Outfit Number 8 For Me And The Outfit I Will Retire From Hasn't Even Started Yet! Really!

For people that are in the industry, all of that is understood. But we all know the media will portray the average UPS pilot as "wealthy" and Joe Sixpack making $10/hour will have no sympathy.

That's why trying to do a "media campaign" to show UPS "wrong doing" will not gain any traction with the public.

What a bunch of fools we all were!! RDG, job share, and the biggest sucker program--sick leave buyback!! We've worked for half pay and sold back sick time which is just like writing UPS a check and the result os a furlough!!

I have an MBA and understand the purpose of corporate management. They have only one purpose--to maximize the stock value. But UPS management is destroying its corporate wealth by creating a monster in the airline with both the pilots and mechs. Buy some FDX immediately because they are going to kick Brown's arse the next few years!

The only thing I agree with you on is buy FedEx stock now and buy lots of it. It has been clear for years now that UPS thinks its airline is not an asset but something necessary in order to compete with FedEx. When you have an attitude like that, you are in big trouble. Looking beyond any furlough, this airline is positioning itself to fail. UPS, a trucking company that happens to own a few airplanes never sounded more true!

Oh for crissakes. Stop the hyperbole. This isn't the end of the known universe. And the airline certainly isn't going to fail...

OK let me re-phrase that. I don't think the airline will necessarily fail, but I think we could be on the road to a much smaller airline. I think FedEx is in much better shape and positioned better to come out of this economic downturn with more customers. You know, I had a UPS gateway manager on the jumpseat a few months back. We asked why UPS stock seemed to do nothing while FDX stock went way up. She said FDX is way more agressive in their operation, while UPS is very very conservative. They go out and get the customers that UPS say they don't want.(insert confused look on all of our faces) To me, this is the time to grow the airline, not shrink it! Again, this is only my opinion, and no, this is not the end of the universe.:D

Well FDX Stock was at 120 with UPS at 80, both went down to 37 or so now FDX is 75 and UPS 60 ish? I think FDX is just more volatile.

Which would mean going down faster in a downturn as well as up faster in a recovery.

Perhaps your true calling is in financial analysis on Wall Street?

The float on UPS stock is much smaller that FedEx. Very large blocks are held by institutional investors that simply don't trade it much. As for company strength, you might want to look at the fundamentals of both companies.
