Our new agreement is not an exit from 4a2b. Rather, it is (assuming that I Understand it correctly) a way to get our union SIG (Scheduling improveent Group) involved in building our lines again. When line values dropped below our contractual bid line guarantee due to 4a2b, the decision was made not to have the union involved.

There is a separate grievance currently in arbitration concerning the illegal application of contract section 4a2b.

Technically the agreement was not an exit from 4a2b, but it did include a defined exit from 4a2b. In a nutshell, if the SAM(system average credit hours) exceeds 68/85 for 2 consecutive bid months then we exit 4a2b. Additionally, if we hire then we exit 4a2b. But in keeping with the pessimistic attitude necessary for survival as an airline pilot these days, it should be noted that there isn't anything in this agreement that prevents the company from going back into 4a2b any time it wants.

Yes, we have many overweight captains. Some haven't seen the inside of a gym in at least two decades. Many have to move the seat full aft during the flight control check to avoid having a yoke punch them in the gut... Disregard, thought this was about the Fedex weight problem...

I don't understand why some guys complain about the "smallest" things. ;) When I was in the right seat or back seat, I always appreciated flying with the seriously fat captains. I thought of it this way: if by chance a window blew out, we could always stuff the fat fella into the hole and we'd probably be able to maintain pressurization up to FL370. As well, from what I remember, we had a bunch of seriously fat First Officers too. Remember the F/O who was soooo large that he couldn't fit into the "sleep room" on the MD-11? I think that was when they instituted a weight limit for crewmembers using the box. Seems to me he wasn't allowed to fly any trip that had an in-flight scheduled "box" rest.

But you never saw any really fat 727 S/O's because they just couldn't fit in that damn seat.

Not sure, but I think he is still the #1 f/o on the MD. He could fit but there was a posted weight limit. It has been removed I believe.

not to mention the fact that, because of 4A2b (the real topic of this thread - which the company has NOT agreed to terminate).......

all the 727 S/O's can afford to eat is Ramen Noodles from Wal Mart - can't get the big gut from that??!!

(also....not getting a beer gut 'cause the Captain can't afford to buy more than one round per layover either!!) :(

Wait, what? We have captains here who buy drinks?!! Maybe on the MD internationally, but certainly not on the Slaveship. Too cheap? Yep. Well, that, plus no time on a layover unless it's for breakfast.

So how do I stack up? :cool: also check the financials, go from 4th quarter 2008 till present.
