I may deadhead to HKG. Any suggestions on the best way to get to the layover hotel? Thanks in advance.

Get on the Airport Express train to Central Station, then buy yourself an Octopus card and use the MTR (Mass Transit Railway/underground train) to the nearest station to the hotel, I think Tsim Sha Tsui is the nearest? It's very easy. From memory you can't use the Octopus card for the Airport Express but it's been a while and may have changed.

If you have the bank. Just take a taxi. If I remember correctly it was around $30.00. Save your self a lot of trouble and time. Spend Fred's $$

If you have bank money, make a reservation with Parklane limo and it cost around 60$ (us). Otherwise take a red taxi cab, it costs around 250 HK.

I hope you have a BOT which is quicker than the other BOT's. I'm guessing lots and lots of BOT's trying to get those Fzn HKG D/H's right now! Well, I hope your BOT beats the lot and you get the slot to see Hong Kong's hot spots! (with apologies to Dr Suess)

For ALL of my scheduled deadheads for MANY years into HKG ... If I had a scheduled d/h, I went to the airport arrivals hotel desk (The hotel is responsible for crew transportation) and identified myself as FedEx CREW. They always put me in a VERY NICE Mercedes limo to the hotel. Direct bill to FDX. Couldn't be any nicer or easier. :D I highly recommend it.

To get to the "HOTEL DESK" ... exit customs, walk towards the opposite (north) end of the terminal, hotel desks are on the right (east) side.

Readback correct. What he said.
Unless you like carrying your 'round the world bag' up and down subway stairs, or trying to stuff them in a crowded train car with a few hundred of your closest friends. Go for the hotel Mercedes. And, as a wise old captain once told me, "it only costs a dollar more to go first class"

The hotel desk does not work anymore b/c we now use park lane limo for everything rather than the hotel car. Cheapest way ($12ish) is the airport express train which transfers to a short bus ride direct to the hotel. It is a high speed, non subway train with nice seats and luggage areas and you do not have to drag your bags up or down stairs. If you have the extra bank book the limo.

Slight correction: The Airport Express leaves the Airport and stops at Tsing Li, Kowloon, and Central. The Sheraton Hotel is on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbor....although the Kowloon stop on the Airport Express is a taxi ride away. Suggest you take the Airport Express to Kowloon not Central and a taxi to the hotel....about 30HKD or 3-4 USD. A taxi from the airport to the Sheraton(Kowloon) about 320HKD or 40USD.
Airport Express fare about 100HKD one way.....Airport to Kowloon or Central....and yes the Octopus card works. Cheers!

... also... there is a 50HKD deposit on a new Octopus card.

I'm about to make my first DH foray to HKG also. I've got lot's of bank money to spend. I hate to ask such an apparently dumb question, but how would I contact Parkland Limo from the States to make an advanced reservation?

You could try this new thing called the internet. They have loads of neat stuff and sometimes even good information there. How about this: hong kong limo service - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?q=hong+kong+limo+service&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a)

The easiest way to make the reservation with Park Lane limo is to email the HKG ramp and let them know that you are deviating and advise them of your inbound flight and arrival time. Email the ramp at: [email protected]
By the way, if you arrive at the hotel after your schedule arrival time, you are fine....but if you arrive early at the hotel, you need to make a hotel reservation and you will have to pay with the company credit card. The rate will be higher that the approved hotel rate and it will cost you about 60$(us) out of pocket per night.

Usually true, although I've arrived up to 10 hours early on the same calendar day (checked in at 1 PM local versus 2300 PM), and was not charged any extra. I did call ahead to the hotel's assistant manager to confirm there would be no extra charge.

Also, sometimes you can talk them into charging you the contract rate for the extra day. Most times if/when you check in early, they will make you sign a little card when you check in agreeing to pay the higher rate. DO NOT sign this unless you are willing to pay the extra out of pocket. This is the time to negotiate the rate back down to the FedEx contract rate. (this applies to Sheraton HKG - not sure the other hotel's procedure on this)

If you agree to pay the higher rate - the company WILL NOT reimburse you for the extra (above contract rate) - no matter how much extra you have in your deviation bank.

The max the company will cover is up to the contract rate for "the city associated with the revenue portion of the trip"

Anything over that is on you.

Hey thanks for the info. I appreciate your help. I wonder if CRS would get involved with booking for an early arrival. We're scheduled in at 0530L and I'm arriving at 2255L the night before.

OK, I'll answer part of that question myself. CRS wants no part of helping to arrange a date change on accommodations.
