I'd call the whole show a joke, just like the Alaskan Bush-Pilot show. Lots of dramatic "We've got to get this airplane in limited time without getting caught!!" drama, yet somehow, having a camera crew follow our heroes doesn't highlight them.

And somehow, they always have time to mount belly-cameras----more than one----on these airplanes they are in a 'hurry' to takeoff with. On a Canadair, I assume they used more than duct-tape.

I saw it the other night (surfing through it). They took a Cessna from a ranch in Texas. A ranch-hand gave chase to one of the guys on the ground. The guy who took the plane buzzed him repeatedly to drive him off.

Now, unless this was done with the full blessing of the FAA (under the auspices of an 'air show'), only a dunce would allow video of such an event to actually be broadcast.

Staged, mindless spectacle for the uninformed. Next.

Totally staged and a joke , I would guess about 14 percent of what you see is really true . The rest is drama for ratings , which I understand , the public wants drama .

Next new show , jersey shore cast gets the ppl and does the repos themselves !

Whatever happened to that reality show where they had a variety of people competing in flight training for some prize?

breaking into private ranch airstrips and hangars, in Texas ? show may get renamed "Deathwish"

No.....:) that one went belly up after two episodes I think (remember the F-15 RTU program?)
They had a similar one with the F/A-18 training that I thought as a little better up in Canada. Of course I might be a little bias ;)

Best Aviation reality shows were Carrier on PBS and there was a documentary called Speed and Angels (I think that was the name) that was also fairly good.

*Both available on Hulu I believe.

Just saw an episode where they "repod" a Beech Jet 400. Theres was a cut scene from inside the cockpit just as V1 is called, the attitude indicator is in a 60 degree bank and around a 15 degree nose down pitch. Engines probably weren't event running.

Fake.

I saw that episode; they even mentioned something about it being legal in Texas to shoot trespassers on sight.

Thought that show was great until the end when the disclaimer says 'dramatic interpretations of events' used to protect the participants. Since its staged its a little tougher to get into.

I had the new episode queued to be recorded, but after forcing myself to watch a few seconds of the re-run prior to the new episode, I cancelled the recording and vowed to never watch another episode.

The producers should be forced to watch this drivel in jail. I honestly think this show would be more effective than water boarding, although I have ethical questions as to if this beyond cruel and unusual.

Today's clincher - the repo guy admonishing the camera crew to be quiet, just as he drives a tug up to the King Air.

I'm just wondering if all the legal paperwork is in order why they have to avoid security and sneak around. I understand avoiding the "owner" and I guess it makes good TV, but it bothers me that they may be teaching people who shouldn't be there how to gain access to airports. Some of the older shows with Popovich were much better and more realistic.

being caught with bolt cutters while breaking into an enclosed structure on private ranch land, to take an airplane, in Texas, lets just say, don't expect the Grand Jury to rule in your favor post-shot-on-the-spot

like someone said, the Popovich shows were cool, these news ones are fake

Hahaha...so true!

I saw one the other day that they were in the everglades and had to sneak up under the cover of darkness and then paddle the sea plane at least an hour "up stream" before getting the pilot to start it up for feath the motorcycle gang ower would shoot on the spot.

Also, another that showed a lot of police activity as a jet was on final in hopes that they were going to get their stolen plane back...the plane aborted and never stopped. Seriously, you want to take possession of your stolen plane and you drive up to the runway with light flashing expecting him to just "pull over"

I've evidence that anyone can see proving it is fake. In the October 3 2014 episode they claim they are on a dangerous island in the Bahamas. Yet, in the video you see repo man Mike Kennedy driving a vehicle. At one point he turns a corner and there is clearly legible a street name marker in the background. It is the corner of Petronia and Frances streets in Key West FL! Go to the street view of that location in Google Maps then watch the episode and you will see the same fence, tree, street sign, Do Not Enter sign and house. All claimed to be in the Bahamas. This show is entertainment, but not reality.

Just saw an episode titled "Flying Blind".
Airplane Repo - S02E07 - Flying Blind - Full Episode - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IwWxKpAbIs)

In this episode Kevin Lacey is coaching a "little girl" on her first repo" of a 172, I guess as his new protege, Heather. (She is not little) This repo was to take place in TX where I live. (Per a previous episode, Kevin Lacey is based out of an airport very close to my home airport). The new chick repo'd a Cessna 172 Skyhawk with the exact same paint scheme as one I trained in for several months. In spite of their best efforts to blur out the tail number, I could still make it out, along with a TX flag decal that I knew to be on the rudder. The tail number was confirmed when she made a radio call prior to landing. Soooo, I called my CFI who trained me in that exact plane and he informed me that it was sitting on the flightline available for flight, not based out of the residential area they depicted on the show. It was NOT REPO'd. We know the owner and he probably let them use it for the show for the $$$.

Way to go, Heather, on your first fake airplane repo! :p

I work with one of the guys interviewed/flying from that show. Moving deck in the South Pacific. You should hear him tell what really happened. The captain finally said enough, with an admiral on board.

I know I said I'd never watch again..........She was struggling to unlock the 172's doors - can't find the right keys. Ummm, the windows were open.:D

If I want to watch a fake show, one of my favorites might be "Super Dave" (Osborne) That is a great fake show! They just don't make fake shows like they used to...

Absolutely fake:

A learjet with a complete hydraulic failure that is then taxied??? to a hangar???

A Cherokee with a total electrical failure at night except for strobe lights, landing lights and conveinenty, on final approach as the runway lights go away.

A Beaver with an overheating engine, precautionary landing & nothing done but the problem goes away.

Aircraft & engine logbooks conveniently in over half the aircraft that are repossessed?

If you can dig up the May 2010 issue of Smithsonian Air & Space there is a great article on Popovich. Apparently Kevin Lacey is/was one of his contract pilots. I watched one episode of "Airplane Repo". i didn't need to see anymore...

i know this is an old thread, but had to share. i met kevin lacey a few back in ADS (he has a hanger at the private strip 3 miles north) he is as much of an ******* in real life as he seems in the show. loves to bash pilots saying "they are the most arrogant pieces of **** ive met in my life" and i asked him how HE can say that and he told me "im a mechanic" he doesnt even consider himself a pilot. the show was originally a documentary of the real deal with nick popovich and was rather accurate. but discovery channel said it was too expensive to produce as it take so long to make one episode and was not dramatic enough for the general public, but ill bet real pilots loved it. HELLO! it takes time to repo and airplane and popvich did an article in Flying magazine and even said that when he comes to repo a plane they always know he is coming. this show is a joke as is the cast. (at least... lacey left a really poor impression with me if you cant tell)
