When did you guys decide to become a pilot? Did you know instantly after your first flight or did it take a while like until after you got your PPL to realize you wanted this as a career?

Made the decision formally at about 17 years old, but had wanted to do it since I was 8 or so.

Same here--solo'd on my 16th; PPL shortly after the 17th; CPL by my 19th. Washed, waxed and fueled planes at local airport thru college, then ANG UPT slot at 24.

I am kind of confused as to whether I want this as a hobby or as a career. Any advice?

It's a pretty expensive hobby and can be either a great or horrible career. It's what you make it and what you want in life.

As Louis Armstrong said, "if you gotta ask, you ain't never gonna know"
