Manila

Any recommendations on things to do in Manila?

I don't need any help with specific accomodations but any areas of the city to avoid staying in?

Any good sights to see in a short visit there? Corregidor island? (I'd like to spend more time and go up to the Banaue terraces someday and trapse around the rest of Luzon but won't have time this trip). Thanks! First visit, and might be quite some time before I get there again.

Good nightlife in Malate. Shopping, movies restaurants etc in the Greenbelt and Glorietta Mall (Makati) area is excellent. Seedy nightlife on P. Burgos St., and Mile-Long area (taxi drivers know...)

Don't go out alone at night if you can help it. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice.

Many of the Navy and Marine folks found entertainment in Olongapo City back in the day when Subic and NAS Cubi Point were big installations.

Corregidor is a day trip, and costs about $40 bucks or so for the tour.

There is an American cemetery there that is pretty cool to check out; thousands of US soldiers from WWII left behind there.

Makati is pretty much the nice part of town, some good spots to hang out down there in the Greenbelt Mall. Cafe Havana comes to mind.

On the weekend nights, lots of people enjoy the Fort in Taguig, some live music venues there.

One more vote for Corregidor and Greenbelt Mall. Pan Pacific Hotel is a good place to stay. Stay out of the seeder parts of town

Olongapo is not what it use to be and it to far to go anyway.
